I would tend to lean to that argument, we just happen to be the furthest country away in Europe, imagine trying to bring up a family in the coastal towns of Greece.

What is shocking is how long it has taken people to realize this or, rather, how long it has taken them to feel outraged enough to speak out.

I've never understood why people cant put themselves in other people's shoes. Yes, we understand the plight of refugees. I can put myself in there shoes and understand their position...but I can also see the position of someone in Greece or serbia with thousands of migrants streaming through their town.

Likewise in the US. It infuriates me the way people sneer at people living on the US mexico border. The savagery of the cartel violence is legendary yet they expect people to react with calm understanding when the same psychopaths are trafficking people through peoples backyards.

It doesn't matter whether they are refugees or migrants. the important thing is that they thought it was ok to do this. These are not isolated incidents. It is part of a wider cultural acceptance of rape called "Taharrush".

Unless we confront the realities of these cultural clashes then we are doomed. We all have a duty to avoid the extremism of the 30's but part of that acceptance is recognizing and listening to the concerns of all.
