General discussion / Fungi, The Dingle Dolphin
« on: November 02, 2020, 02:19:36 PM »
Any word on Fungi? Have they found him yet?

Been listening to lots of stories of Jack the man, and of the many stories of his time over the Irish team.

You have to admit he had a massive impact in Ireland during his time in charge.

Anyone got any good stories or memories of following the team, or the man himself?

Slightly different thread to the sniggering placenames.

Always liked the sound of Skibbereen, Dingle, Kinvara,

Dingle and Kinvara Iíve been to, and theyíre nice spots. Not got to Skibbereen yet, sounds a lovely spot. Could be wrong though.

GAA Discussion / The most bonkers moments in GAA
« on: April 27, 2020, 01:10:11 PM »
Watched MOTDís most bonkers Premier League moments. Most were fairly non-events. Cantonaís Kung fu kick, Di Canio shoving the ref and Bentís beachball goal v Liverpool about the most memorable.

Anyway, it got me thinking about a GAA one.

Meath v Louth 2010 obviously is a big one.
Offaly fans sit down protest on the pitch in 1998 another.
Charlie Redmond getting sent off twice in 1995.

Any others you would include?

Not enough football talk on here, so letís get talking about it again.

What was the best goal scored in an All Ireland final?

I donít mean in terms of timing, importance, history etc.... I just mean, as a thing of beauty.

For me, itís hard to decide between Michael Murphy v Mayo in 2012, and John OíDriscoll v Derry in 1993.

General discussion / Postage question
« on: April 06, 2020, 01:05:12 PM »
Was selling a few things on eBay there. Have to send a couple of these, but to be honest, Iíd prefer not to have to go to the post office to do so.

Is there a way of doing it online and throwing it into the local postbox instead, or give it to the postman?

General discussion / Wakes and Funerals during the pandemic
« on: March 22, 2020, 12:32:16 PM »
Apologies if itís been covered in the main thread, but Iíve been avoiding that for my own sanity.

Whatís the procedure regarding wakes and funerals during the pandemic?

We have a family member who isnít too well (not virus related), and with other vulnerable people in the extended family, we want to be prepared for what might happen.

As hard as it would be for a vulnerable family member not to be able to attend a relatives wake/funeral, we have to be sensible too. And some people might go anyway even if it jeopardises their health or life.

Any help or advice welcome.

So, now that we are in Lent, what is everyone abstaining from?

GAA Discussion / The Greatest Gaelic Football Manager?

Since Jim Gavin stepped down, thereís talk of him being the greatest Gaelic football manager ever.

Do you agree? Or would you vote for someone else?

General discussion / Irelandís drugs epidemic
« on: October 09, 2019, 12:27:25 AM »
Yer man Carvill wrote a piece this week, and it got me thinking.

We live in a time where there has never been more awareness programs in schools, sports clubs, on TV etc. People are more educated about the dangers of drugs, yet there seems to be more and more people gripped by drugs problems.

Iíd say most towns and villages in the country are touched in some way. Itís frightening.

What can be done? And why are drugs so prevalent all around the country?

Apparently Jonny Cooper was the 21st player sent off in an AI football final.

Iím trying to figure out the other 20.

And who was the first sent off? It wasnít Kevin Moran again, was it?  ;D

I can only think of:

Donal Vaughan
John Small
Liam McHale
Colm Coyle
Charlie Redmond (eventually)
Diarmuid Marsden (unfairly, of course)
Tony Davis
Meath 2001, Nigel Nestor, was it?
Cork 1988, Colm OíNeill? (Punched Mick Lyons. Brave man!)

3 Dubs in 1983. Mullins?
1 Galway in 83?

OK, Iím done.

GAA Discussion / Highest individual score in one match
« on: August 08, 2019, 09:50:57 AM »
Oisin 2-7, Stevie McDonnell 3-4, Canavan 0-11, McGuigan 0-11...

How about this:

Downís Niamh Mallon scored 3-18 v Wexford in the Intermediate Camogie championship last weekend.

Can anyone beat that?
