Right lads, this thread has gone just about as far as it can. The petty insults have started now and it's not all coming from 1 side either. A few lads need to have a look at themselves here if they are being honest. Thread is now locked.

Cold Tea, your inflammatory language has been reported on this thread. I've edited the posts. You're 100% free to state and defend your opinion, but please stop using deliberately antagonistic or insulting language. Everyone else, please do not resort to insults in response. I've edited a couple of responses too.

Was Fearon not banned for similar comments?

He was indeed, but he was banned for repeatedly posting comments like that, despite being warned about it. Walter, your comment falls quite clearly under rule 4

Quote4. Inappropriate posts, incitement or racist posting.
This is a very broad topic, and can be the most subjective in the way the moderators view things. In general, it would be the 'good manners' rule. Specific examples of
inappropriate posts would be the following. (This list is by no means conclusive)
      - Abusive posts between fans of soccer teams, clearly not part of good humoured banter. Mentions of Hillsborough, Munich, Heysel or alluding to these incidents in a
way designed to incite other posters to break forum rules.
Please keep that sort of stuff off the soccer threads.

Wobbler, yours is less obvious, but based on the other post Laoislad quotes, it's hard to give the benefit of the doubt.  Cop on.

Bigfella and Cold Tea, cop on to yourselves please. bigfella, there was no need for you to post that, and of course you got the reaction you were looking for. Ignore one another if you can't behave like adults.

Nobody was banned, or has ever been banned, for disagreeing with a moderator. Tony was banned because he had been warned, and he still persisted in posting comments which he knows, and everyone else knows, are designed to provoke a negative reaction.

That particular topic (Hillsborough/Munich/Heysel)  has been out of bounds on this board for many years. This is not new. And as I mentioned, Tony had been warned.

I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with the ban, or supporting Tony. That's your opinion. I'm just trying to make sure the board doesn't descend into the crap that was going on 4 or 5 years ago when those topics were making the soccer threads unreadable.

As regards not banning people for insulting Tony, I will take a look, and if there are personal abuse posts I will warn people. I know I warned someone a few weeks ago after I had warned Tony that he was on thin ice.

I have no agenda or axe to grind, I just have no time for supposed WUMs whose sole intention is to make using GAABoard an annoying experience for users. It's for debate and interaction, not a platform for someone to pleasure themselves by pissing off as many other users as possible.
Says him....

Touché. I may piss people off, but that's not my intention. I might be a crap moderator, but at least I'm not deliberately trying to be.

Good work Ziggysego.

Mod3, can you ban anyone who says I'm you?

Away you go :P

Seriously, Mod3. this is what I'm talking about, it's annoying. Please ban all these ones.

Deiseach, years ago there were some distasteful 'debate' on the soccer threads, and Munich did indeed get an airing. The threads were unusable there for a while. I do not like banning people, I think it's rare enough I do it, but using something like that to get a rise out of people is beyond the pale and I don't apologise for it.

At least in the Israel/Palestine and various threads about the north, there is a modicum of debate. When those soccer threads went haywire all sense went out the window and that's why the rule is explicit in those situations.

You couldn't leave it Tony. 10 days, as this is (at least) your second time trying to use Hillsborough as a wind up topic. See Rule 4.

Mod, I assume MR2 will be accompanying me shortly on the ice?

Absolutely, MR2, no need for that. Definitely falls under personal abuse.

Also you're a ref and don't know the black card rules!

I seriously don't know where to start with this one. Sometimes this board depresses me. Most of the comments are old now, so I'll just do a bit of tidy up in case anyone might stumble on this in future, but please lads, at least have some common decency when discussing topics like this, and if you feel that someone has acted incorrectly at least be mindful of circumstance before you go labelling people as bigots.

We encourage debate on this forum, and moderate lightly enough, so please don't head down this path.
