General discussion / POSTAL SCAM
November 22, 2010, 02:04:38 PM
Just received this info by e mail and I suppose its only relevant for people from the 6 counties

Christmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The
Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel
Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that
you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).
DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.
If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will
already have been billed £315 for the phone call.

GAA Discussion / CROKE PARK MASSACRE 90TH ANNIVERSARY
November 19, 2010, 04:33:17 PM
Just to remind everybody that this Sunday is the 90th anniversary of Bloody Sunday when British terrorists smashed their way into Croke Park and murdered spectators and Michael Hogan.

It would be appropriate to recall their memory with a minute's silence on Sunday at any GAA events and their murders are made all the more poignant when one considers the way in which their sacrifice has been insulted and demeaned by thedisgusting behaviour of those who hold the levers of power. The little freedom we have attained has been frittered away.

Before the west brit brigade start jumping up and down about ranking up the past and victimhood and let sleeping dogs lie and whatever revionist tripe they spout, it is a worthy and a decent thing to recall the memory of these innocent victims of terrorists.

They went to Croke Park to simply watch a match and cheer on their team and they were cut down by British gunmen who didn't, don't and never ever will have a right to be in this country.

Let's hope that their sacrifice wasn't in vain but I fear that it was.

General discussion / MC DOWELL - HAS HE ANY SHAME?
September 20, 2010, 11:32:25 PM
I have just watched a programme in which Michael McDowell has promoted Mick Collins as the greatest ever Irish person. Now that in itself is fair enough and out of the five candidates the Big Fella or James Connolly will get my vote.

The sheer hypocrisy displayed by McDowell is astounding. For years this guy has made a name for himself by beating his anti-republican, anti-Irish, anti-armed struggle drum and yet he has the brass neck to come on the telly and tell us how great a fella Mick Collins was. Collins got his reputation because he was wedded to violence and he had no difficulty in unleashing the same violence with a ruthlessness that would make the most hardened activists squirm.

I thought that it was an insult to Collins' memory to have the high priest of the shoneen promote his cause. Unless Mc Dowell has had a conversation of Damascian proportions - which I doubt - then for this guy to speak so glowingly of a great IRA leader is just hypocrisy and proves that he will do anything to get his gob on the TV.

Is it any wonder that the electorate saw through this gobshtie and kicked him out?

GAA Discussion / Gaeilge Chruinn Fhoirfe CLG
September 13, 2010, 10:14:45 AM
Ar an chéad dul síos ní "fíor Gael" mé ach tuigim tábhacht na teanga agus tá mé den bharúil má tá an duine ag dul rud éigin a dhéanamh is fiú é a dhéanamh i gceart. Ní saineolaí mé ach oiread - mar sin de tá fáilte mhór romhaibh uilig mé a cheartú.

Ba mhaith liom an seanphort sin a bhualadh faoi dhrochchaigdheán na Gaeilge i bhfoilseacháin CLG. Ar na mallaibh chuir mé iarratas isteach chuig CLG ar lorg eolais faoin "Príomh". Sheol siad leabhairín iontach deas chugam. Ba léir ón fhoilseachán seo gur caitheamh cuid mhór airgid air mar den ardchaighdeán a bhí an paipéar agus an stíl clódóireachta. Iontach proifisiúnta ar fad a bhí sé.

A luaithe agus go noscailítear é tá an ghnathlitir ann, "A Chara, blath blath blath......" Shílfeá go mbeadh gach rud ann cruinn agus foirfe. 'Sé an mhalairt atá fíor. Tá caighdeán na Gaeilge chomh bocht sin ann go bhfuil sí dothuigthe. Anois, tá a fhios agam go dtig linn  a rá, " Cad é eile a shílfeá? Seo CLG agus níl le fáíl ach béalghrá don teanga SRL SRL SRL"

Ach sa lá ata inniu agus súil ghearr ar 'achan phingin ceapaim gur cur amú airgid é má tá CLG ag gul a mhacasmháíl a chur i gcló - cur amú airgid s'againne. Is léir nach ndearnadh athléamh ar an phíosa lena cheartú agus as sin is suntasach gur beag an meas atá ag an dream seo ar an Ghaeilge ach caithfidh muid - muintir CLG - a rá leis na hamadáin seo nach bhfuil muid ag glacadh leis cur amú seo níos mó. An bhfuil duine ar bith ceapaithe nó fostaithe ag CLG mar oifigeach na Gaeilge agus má tá cad chuige nach ndéann sé nó sí athléamh ar phíosaí a bhfuil an Ghaeilge iontu?  Cé tá freagrach as ár naiseanna a chur amú gan trácht ar chaitheamh anuas a dhéanamh ar an teanga agus ar lucht na Gaeilge?

General discussion / LIAM HANNAWAY HUNGER STRIKE
May 24, 2010, 04:24:11 PM
Has anybody any idea why this fella is on hunger strike?

He's now 41 days into his strike which means its now in the critical phase and I'm worried that we are walking into the past without even realising it.

I'd be interested to find out what Hannaway's grievance is to drive him to hunger strike.

GAA Discussion / BBC AXE GAA PROGRAMME - WHY??
May 24, 2010, 10:02:10 AM
I notice that An Domnach Mor has been axed by the BBC. Well, it wasn't on last night and I see from their web-site that there is no notice of its return so I assume that it has been axed. If so, does anybody know why? I enjoyed the craic and banter after the matches especially when a bus load of supporters would phone in.

This programme was set-up to be of service to Gaels and yet it has disappeared without an explanation. The fact that they take this programme off air without any reason displays nothing but contempt for the listeners, which would be GAA people. Surely, with all the negative press the BBC has been getting in relation to its coverage of Gaelic Games you would think that they would have tried to keep the head down but what do they do? They axe a GAA programme. Yeah, I can see the sense in that - NOT!! Clearly, whoever decided to pull this programme wanted to give two fingers to the GAA listeners.

The BBC clearly read these message boards so a simple question is, "What muppet decided to axe An Domnach Mor and why?"   ??? Obviously the person behind this decision has no understanding of match days but whenever you are driving home after "the game" the main topic of conversation is "the game" and having a programme which is timed to coincide with supporters travellng home and is dedicated to discussing "the game" is what those listeners want.

I found the programme very enjoyable and the cupla focal added to the whole thing. I for one am disappointed that this programme is not being aired but, sure, I have the excellent coverage of the North West whatever number it is to compensate followed by the exciting highlights of Distillery V Ballyclare with less the number of spectators that you would get at a hurling match in Fermanagh.(Before, you ask, yes people do hurl in Fermanagh.) Great to see that the BBC have got their priorities right - look after your own boys and sure its good to know where yous are at!! ;)

By the way, for the record, I'm not Jerome Quinn and nor am I a BBC employee
