Westmeath team for Sunday against Louth

Gary Connaughton; Mark McCallon, Kieran Gavin, Kevin McGuire; Michael Curley, Paul Sharry, Doron Harte; Paul Bannon, John Heslin; Ger Egan, Callum McCormack, Kieran Martin; Ronan Foley, James Dolan, Denis Glennon.

Not bad, wouldn't expect them to line out like that. Dessie out injured, time we beat this shower in the league.

Ye must be sickened. We were 9 points down at one stage. First 30 minutes of the game were some of the worst I've seen Wexford play in the last 10 years. Absolutely brutal stuff. Just glad the Bardon an Kavanagh weren't playing. Ye found it nearly impossible to score against the wind in the second half and missed some fairly handy frees too. We started to dominate around the middle of the park and Ben Brosnan kept banging over the frees. The goal sealed it then. Great result for us but an awful performance.

What is it with Longford and being unable to hang on agaisnt the yellow bellies, League final last year aside?! Even a draw wouldnt have been a bad start but too many narrow defeats could cost us. Sounds like a decent showing desite the tight defeat, must win game next up at home to Westmeath.

Who showed up well today Shamrock? Bit of a spin to Wexford Park for you!

Usual Longfords in the crowd Qywerty. I live in Dublin and the auld lad and brother were passing by the door almost so I took a lift.

If 'How to lose a match you should win' was a Leaving Cert subject Longford would get A+++ in their recent games against Wexford. Wexford were awful in first half. Longford di have a strong breeze but the concession of a goal on the stroke of half time took an 8 pt cushion into a 5 pt one and more than one Longford supporter there felt that it wasn't enough.

We were poor in the second half, bar Quinn. McCormack missed at least 3 very scoreable frees and we got caught cold for WX's second goal.

We'll see how things are in the upcoming matches........

Big one for ye next week Shamrock.
The Celtic v Rangers of Gaelic Football.
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

The Insider

Blew 2 points today , conceded 2 soft goals, missed up to 5 frees , last 2 free's for Wexford on another day would probably been given as frees out. Michael Brady had some good moments ,but Longford senior management must heal whatever rift is there between them and James Mc Givney. The panel is too small to let a player of his potential off. Also our free takers must start taking frees off the ground when conditions are like today.Kicking high balls into a strong wind is nearly always a recipe for disaster. Surprising with Padraig Davis on the management Contrast our efforts with that of Brosan who scored 2 out of 2 from about 35m  when he was kicking into the wind and successful with 3 out of 4 in the second with 1 dropping short. We missed 4 into the wind also kicked a 45 m into the wind wide.

As comprehensive a 1 point victory as you're ever likely to see in Cusack Park yesterday. Louth got two fortuitous goals early on and Doran Harte was shown the door in the 20th minute. Despite being 6 points and a man down Westmeath were by far the better team from there on in. Shane Lennon caused us big problems but apart from that it was just a matter of keeping the effort going. Poor start from us though, need to start games at a higher tempo and when goal opportunities present themselves we need to work the goal. Slashers up next, it's in Castle Greyskull and need the points in what will be a very competitive division.

Same wind as what we played against in the first half. If we win our other two home games and Longford or Wexford away we'll be okay, win them all and we'll be pushing for promotion. What was wrong with Paddy Keenan? Didn't seem to be lumbering in his half time warm up but didn't get into the game at all when he came on.

Thought there was suppose to be highlights of Wexford Longford on Sunday sport but cant find them on the rte player....ah well dont think i missed much apart from another tight defeat!

Next up the midlands Classico....home advantage should be worth a few points but need to make the most of it.
