Yawn.He will have a huge funeral, despite the haters trying to smear his good name.

Highly respectful comments from the usual suspects

says the 'man' who uses the Death Notices thread regularly to make tasteless jokes about people's deaths...
Describing them as jokes  is stretching it quite a bit

So did Jimmy Saville.

Your own Bob Dylan comments were hardly respectful.

The twisted logic seems to be if they're famous they're fair game.
That's just, like your opinion man.

Will there be any acknowledgement of the horrific wrongs he was complicit in during his life in the funeral mass Tony ?

There are some old saying handed down through generations that are still as true today as they were in yesteryear.

One of those is "never speak ill of the dead"*

* the only exception being Thatcher.

Cardinal Dessie was just a weak character, who also seemed to have no overall concept of how much damage his actions had on a lot of people. The weakness of character of the clergy seems to be an over riding factor. It would have taken a brave man in the clergy to say no or to be a whistleblower. Sometimes people are not bad or malicious they are just natural cowards who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time with difficult decisions to make.

The same can/could be said of cardinal brady.

Well said. I would not suggest that Connell was inherently evil - he was a bookish academic that was promoted way above his station. However, that said, his actions in frustrating the legal process, and basically lying to State authorities, all to protect Mother Church, is appalling and stains whatever "good name" he may have had.

Dying does not absolve him of this in my eyes.

It would seem men with red hats can do no wrong with some people.
