Before you get carried away with the GAA's contribution to Women's soccer. The LGFA put their under 14 girls All Ireland Finals on the same weekend as the under 14 Gaynor Cup. The Gaynor Cup is held the same weekend every year. There were a plethora of girls who missed out on both sides of a big moment in their sporting lives.

GAA has little respect in the for soccer in the boardrooms. And are aggressive in their dealing with Soccer.

It's the same tedious article whenever an Irish team succeed. X amount played football so therefore the GAA are the real hero's of the story. Interesting that they never write it the other way round - pick a ladies team and list how many played soccer and thank the FAI.

Croke Park have told Louth to stop the project as it is now more than 2x over budget and the arab passport money isn't in. Louth are cracking on and turning the sod at 11, and tapping the GAA up for 7m.

It does look like the funding for this is with the birds and the GAA centrally will end up carrying the can. But other than not give them 7m, can Croker actually stop this?

Seemingly Bennett announcing how many games in each sport RTE showed got soccer wrong by a margin

The RTE Commercial Director (now retired) claimed that the RTE Director General (now resigned) told her that RTE was under pressure to pay the two €75k invoices for "Consultancy" through the barter account as payment for Ryan Tubridy. Though he denies it, the pressure was obviously coming from Ryan Tubridy's agent, Noel Kelly, who would get a handsome cut. Yesterday it became quite clear that there was no contract other that a supposed verbal commitment.

I believe there were three €75k payments in total. Ryan Tubridy provided 3 "Late Late Road Shows" for Renault in 2022 as per the "agreement". The other 2 years' roadshows (3 per year) are outstanding – Ryan Tubridy was paid for these via the two dodgy invoices through the barter account. This cost a 35% commission to the barter company on each invoice – all for the purposes of hiding these payments . There was no mention of paying back this money until yesterday – Ryan Tubridy has committed to return the €150k if these outstanding roadshows don't happen. I'm sure Patrick Kielty won't do them !

I believe that Noel Kelly was less than honest yesterday and that he was the instigator of these two seemingly fraudulent payments. His company issued the two seemingly fraudulent invoices for "consultancy". His excuse – "RTE told me to do it ". RTE were obviously complicit. At best Ryan Tubridy was very naive in this whole matter. I don't believe he set out to deceive but he is still standing by his agent Noel Kelly. Unless he publicly apologies for the actions of his agent he should not be allowed back into RTE.

Tomorrow's committee hearings will probably hear RTE rebut some of Noel Kelly's evidence – it brings to mind the saying "there is no honour among thieves".

On what planet are Renault, no longer a sponsor of the LLS, going to ask Tubs, no longer the presenter of the LLS, to do 6 corporate gigs with all this going on?

Be a good step if they published what the presenters are getting.

Why?

From a consumer's point of view this is the least of our worries.

Are the presenters and other staff being paid by RTE or GAAGO Ltd?

I think that is very relevant to understanding the broader issue

The usuals were going mad that the Kilkenny hurling and Kilkenny camogie men of the matches on the same day got different prizes. He got a crystal hurl statue, she got a digital radio.

Pure misogyny. If you ignore the fact it was different sponsors in a different sport run by a different association

Nothing but a fair lot of scum following teams these days. Nearly as bad as the soccer. They have to start seperating them in the hill.

It's much worse than soccer.
fans are separated in soccer. Rows would be fairly common outside of stadiums in soccer would they?

No.
Ah now, rovers and bohs fans are notorious for getting it on before matches. Pats and bohs too and rovers and pats have all had incidents before and during games.
I'm not saying it's endemic, but it happens quite a bit and is much more orchestrated than them stupid fisticuffs between drink fans on the hill - which I'm not condoning btw.
As for people saying it's societal and illustrates a decline, seriously?? O'Neill showed incidents from the 70's and 80's, but I'm sure everyone has stories of the type of violence that used to go on both to refs, on the pitch and amongst the spectators - looked thru the lens of history, these stories have become hilarious local legends, but my guess is they weren't much fun as they were being lived!

I think the point is it is by and large a thing of the past.  I can't recall the last time there was trouble other thsn the cup final. Certainly not since covid.

But we are still talking about soccer as if it matters

And if that GAA matter is a stabbing?

He'll have plenty of time to sort out his issues when facing two counts of assault with a deadly weapon

There are some very good lawyers in Tyrone. And he might get a magistrate with a sympathetic ear towards the emotion of GAA.

I'm sure there are a million hard luck stories the magistrates hear. Unprovoked attack with a deadly weapon at a kids game. Though nothing surprises me, probably get two years suspended sentence.

Was just thinking about this. What happens if both parties decide not to press charges?

The state can still prosecute if there is evidence

Was there any trouble at the Setanta Cup matches this year?!!
The Setanta Cup that ended 9 years ago?

The smoking gun that soccer has a bigger problem is fascists, lower league English football and a defunct competition...?
Why did it end?
A combination of a dying sponsor and nordies not enjoying their on field hidings.
And ...... ?  Go on ... tell us.

Literally just did. Setanta Sports went bankrupt and the IFA teams went cold on it.

What relevance is this to drunk and bagged youths fighting on the Hill?

Theres a strange defending off soccer here by some and pretending it's much better than GAA.

Barely 2 months ago a referee was hospitalised in a local soccer match after being kung fu kicked by a sub running onto the field and Gardai/FAI investigated RTE reported on it, he got 5 year ban

Dublin referees were going to go on strike last November because referees were being assaulted

FAI Cup final had large crowd trouble in recent years and other LOI matches

Quite frankly though I think much of the issues in both sports are more about the decline in behaviour in society in this country and lack of morals, manners and punishments.

No, there is an objection to whataboutery. Soccer has dramatically cleaned up it's act. Every incident you referenced saw multi year or lifetime bans. Compare and contrast. What crowd trouble at LoI games orhen than the cup final?

We should be able to discuss trouble at our games without reference to soccer, especially incorrect references to soccer.
