GAA Discussion / Friday Night Football
June 08, 2021, 08:45:42 PM
I see some recent debate in various places with regard to football on a Friday night.

I have often thought how fortunate we are in Down to play our football on a Friday night for most of the year. Train Monday & Wednesday. Match Friday.

Some counties may not have the luxury of being able to make such a move with vast travelling distances involved.

Work is so much more enjoyable on a Friday knowing you have the game to look forward to that evening. Whatever the weekend holds in store, the game on a Friday night can turn a good weekend into a great one.

Not surprised to see the likes of Tyrone making the change this year and trust this is popular with players and spectators alike.

A few good strikes in here. Don't understand why this one isn't on the shortlist, however.

General discussion / Places to stay in Newry
April 14, 2013, 08:43:23 PM
I have about a dozen or so coming up to Newry in a few weeks for a weekend and am struggling to find much suitable accommodation. We would be after apartments, houses for rent for the weekend at a half decent price. Anybody any ideas? Have seen some stuff online but are out of town. Anyone know anywhere quite central that would allow walking for a night out?

Any help appreciated.

General discussion / sport related quotes
November 30, 2008, 09:27:59 PM
The quotes about the irish thread got me thinking. There's some great football related quotes. Im sure everyone knows a few. Controversial, commentator gaffes or funny interviews. here's some of the one's i can remember.

"We reckon Carlton covers every blade of grass. But then I suppose you ould have to when your first touch is that crap!"
Ex Southampton boss Dave Jones on midfielder Carlton Palmer

Interviewer: Gordon, could we have a quick word?
Gordon Strachan: Velocity

Peter Crouch, on Soccer AM when asked what he would have been if he wasnt a footballer, replied, "Probably a Virgin"

Rio Ferdinand, interviewed after scoring against Liverpool: "Goal of the Month"

The legendary Jeff Stelling: "They will be dancing in the streets of Total Network Solutions tonight."

David Pleat after a cross come shot from Aaron lennon: I don't know whether that was a good bad one or a bad good one.

plus endless lines from dunphy and co

General discussion / Driving Lessons

Hey guys. Finally got round to taking lessons! anyone else at the same who can share their experiences? have taken half a dozen so far. Doing ok I think but cant help feeling that the instructor is inhibiting my progress! When Im out between lessons Im much better as I can just think for myself and trust my own instincts but with the instructor I just seem to be following instructions. How long has it taken most people to be ready for their test? Any funny scenarios or particularly evasive instructors to report?

General discussion / soccer quiz questions
May 06, 2008, 09:39:03 PM
Not sure if anything like this has featured before but anyone have any good quiz questions on football? Try to answer them using the memory and not through the use of the internet as much as possible.
Here's one for starters.
Name three teams to have one the European Cup with the 11 starters all coming from the home country of the team they played for???

And also which is the only city in Europe to have three stadiums with over 50,000 capacity?

And which is the only city in Europe to have two teams who compete in different countries?

Pick a twenty-four man squad for the season based on premiership performances this year.

3 goalkeepers
8 defenders
8 midfielders
5 strikers
