Haven't posted in a while but after watching the 4 games this weekend I hope the committee introduce some new rules before football becomes unwatchable.  Apart from the second half of Galway v. Dublin this was a snoozefest.  I hate to see what football has become. We get an occasional good game now and again but in general it has become very hard to watch.

Hopefully some new ideas are out there because the stats have taken away the entertainment and it is very sad indeed.
I used to be indecisive but now I'm not too sure.

As the County action ends the debate starts.....
Enforce 4 steps rule, allow a tackle on the man, restrict the handpass or dont allow back passes between the 2 20s,
Restrict solos,hops??

Mind this one the last time? The crowd murmuring 1, 2, 3 in unison and then 'kick it!? Lead to a very strange game

Define the tackle on the man? Aussie rules style?

I had forgot about that

Unless you're a complete diehard, the current version of football is unwatchable bar the very odd game. The atmosphere feels similar to what you'd get at a test cricket match.

The silence in the stands and terraces is the most telling indictment.
Soccer gets over that by inane singing and chanting.

13 aside.  For kickouts the 'attacking' team has to have 5 players in the opposition half. Prevents teams filtering back from kickouts. Not perfect but might work

Too many games in too short a timeframe.

The media and pundits are not impartial. Look how many ex players are now making a great living from it. They won't want to go back to almost straight knockout as all of these games are now their living.

If every team could only train twice a week and play away with their clubs we would have a much better spectacle.

It's not as if we have to compete internationally, we just have to loom after the game for ourselves!

Won't happen though, will just keep getting more professional and less enjoyable.

Club is where its at.

How about starting with all kickouts from the 21 and must cross the 45 before being touched? This short kickout is terrible and has robbed the game of one of the greatest spectacles i.e high fielding.

Anothe item of note was that 2 matches had no goals at all..

Time to wake up before it's too late

They tried that and in one of the trial games there was a gale force wind and the keepers struggled to get the ball out. I'd look at the new 40m line as a zone for kick outs to go out past as a starter. The short kick out and slow build up is a pollution.

+1
Over everything basically

Administrators, coaching, media all playing their part in it's digression as a form of entertainment

That just about sums it up and the over coaching of players is the biggest issue. No room for spontaneity as everything is so overly structured and predictable. But there is plenty of this at club level now as well as the trends and patterns of the intercounty game often tend to filter downwards.

I'm not sure I'll ever have the desire to watch a double header back to back again after yesterday unless something changes. It's a long grind and one match is more than enough to endure.
