Quote from: An Watcher on September 19, 2024, 04:52:37 PMNo disrespect to Conor Turbitt but really, an All star year!  Maybe more to do with the lack of forwards in the game reserve days that an above average one gers an all star

Top scorer from play in the All Ireland series and being talked about as a POTY contender before a quiet final. I felt his exclusion from the POTY short list is a bigger surprise than his inclusion in the All Star nomination list. That said it was very hard to separate 5 or 6 POTY candidates for me with no clear stand out
Yeah pre final i would have had him in the poty conversation with the 3 who were nominated plus Rian. Crealey and Grimley both up there as well

Thought he was very good most of the year bar the final, the run in extra time for the fisted point against Kerry was unreal.

Hughes
McCambridge McKay McGrath
McHugh Forker Mogan
Conroy Crealey
Maher Rian Conaty
Turbo Gallen Mulroy?

Wasn't a vintage year for inside forwards and tbh Grugan has as good a chance as Gallen or Mulroy for me. Toss up with Crealey and Grimley, tbh I would have Conaty inside and Joe McElroy wing forward but he somehow wasn't nominated

Total toss up between Crealey and Grimley, thought both were excellent this year, would be great for Niall after all he's been through.

Quote from: theskull1 on September 17, 2024, 12:54:34 PMSo many people unable to get out of the 'one side good other side bad' mentality  :-\

Pro understanding the geopolitical realities is not pro Russian.

I can understand why the US didn't like the USSR defending Cuba when they asked them for assistance. Likewise I can understand why Russia didn't like all the NATO activity in and around their bordering countries in recent years.

List of NATO exercises

I'm also in agreement in principal with true blue that every country should have the right to choose its own security arrangements. The problem is that many countries governments now serve global elites and not by the will of the people so it's never as clear cut as you would like. NATO wouldn't look like a peace keeping force to Russians when you look at their activity in the last 10 years would it?

And lets not get into how many regime changes have came about through Western involvements in those countries they decide they don't like (because they won't play ball)

You can't get out of the way of the 'it's always the fault of the west and USA' mentality instilled in you by reading too much Chomsky and listening to the likes of Greenwald.

You're mistaking believing Russian propaganda for 'nuance'.

NATO can't invade and could never invade Russia because they have nuclear weapons. They can't and they won't. It's that simple.

Russia can't touch NATO members. (At least I used to think so but with the cowardice shown by the US and Germany I'm not so sure anymore. Poland and the Baltics definitely have doubts too).

NATO membership limits Russian imperialism. (Putin will probably test this theory at some point)

Everything else from you is just hot air.

Regards,

Si OParlon.
What cowardice from America/Germany? Surely Ukraine would have been wiped out by now but for Western help?

Quote from: Truthsayer on September 17, 2024, 10:30:56 PMYou get the feeling Israel is going to get hit hard very soon. The epitome of evil that is pushing and pushing till its inevitable its people pay a very dear price.
Not saying I want that to happen at all but can see it coming...
By who though? They'll be able to protect themselves with that other shower across the Atlantic backing them up.

Quote from: illdecide on September 16, 2024, 08:43:50 PMWe have the Southerners complaining that their own stadiums aren't getting enough and why Belfast.
We have the sh1t show of Stormont who couldn't agree on the colour of their sh1te

There's more but just pissed off typing this up...

All generalisations are dangerous. Have long said Dublin should fund a top class GAA stadium in our second city, not just for Ulster, but a place they should be looking to host big games like league finals, All-Ireland qtr finals. It's also putting a stamp in the ground to protect Irish culture. Every province should have a top class modern stadium. Harris should have the balls to do that now and hopefully stop the we'll be consulting with the UK gov on a way forward. Wouldn't it be great if the Ulster final was hosted there in 2027/28. It would soften some coughs. The money is there. Doesn't even need to tap into the Apple windfall.

Cullyhanna v Crossmaglen
Clan na Gael v Killeavy
Armagh Harps v Clann Éireann
Madden v Mullaghbawn
Should be 4 decent games, Cross and Cullyhanna in particular will get a big crowd in. looking at the Ulster draw though none will get near Glen.

Quote from: 03,05,08 on September 14, 2024, 12:38:32 PMWhat's the story with automatic qualification for hosts? Hopefully the decision rules out NI seeing as they will be hosting nothing.
Proper order.

Hopefully get a proper modern reasonably sized stadium built now.

A real shame about the Euros and for Belfast and the North as a whole but sure just goes to show the Brits don't give one f**k.

Quote from: Red10 on September 13, 2024, 11:24:31 PMJust another example of the folly of Sinn Fein proping up the failed statlet. They have no influence or power and the place is still run by the faceless men and women as before. They may have nice titles and big offices but it means nothing. They can do nothing unless their masters allow them to. For weeks they have have been promising Casement, City deals, road builds etc, etc.
Should they go back to shooting the Brits instead?

Quote from: JPGJOHNNYG on September 13, 2024, 04:08:56 PMThey should get the £320 million in five pounds notes and use it to build the foundations for next year's craigyhill bonfire. I don't think the DUP will agree to anything else.
you would have to have notes with Michelle or someone on it so they'd burn it

Quote from: Armagh18 on September 12, 2024, 09:52:27 PMTheres definitely an element of it, even subconsciously you'll get that extra few % out of yourself knowing a game is more important than another.

Then you have lads peaking fitness wise for championship and maybe different gameplans being trialled out in less in league games.

Remember reading about how Armagh eased up in a lot of league games this year and began working on different systems/set plays/calls etc when the game was comfortable.

And of course being in Div 2 they had the luxury to ease up, a luxury that may not be available in Div 1. Of course, with a more mature game plan they now might benefit more from a good test of it.
Argument to be made either way I suppose, Galway and Tyrone this year both had to throw some inexperienced lads in at the deep end and it'll probably stand to them in the long run.
