We are not playing against other nations. why do we feel the need to play the national anthem before every county game? There'd be some laugh if they played GSTQ before every premiership game.

The whole habit indicates a severe inferiority complex in this day and age.

Or maybe just a pride in our Nation and our National Games.

We don't have "internationals" or a "champions league" so our inter-county games are our "world cup/euros".

They don't play anthems for the Champion's League.

I agree with Uladh in so far as I think the National Anthem has run its course in our organisation. Maybe we should adopt a champion's league type anthem or get Phil Coulter to pen a lovely ballad recognising our games I don't know (yeah I'm only messing about this bit)!

I think in this day and age there is really no need for it. It's an Irish sport and people recognise that but as people have said it's rarely sung by spectators and even less by players. In fairness I always loved standing for the anthem for a club game as it helped to build things up a bit before you went out to play but I think as an organisation we need to move on and get away from these out dated traditions!

::) ::) ::)

It's not a "National Anthem" it's just a random song they play where both teams stand in front of the crowd for a couple of minutes while it's on.

After the talk on the US Open thread about who was better between Tiger and Federer I though I should start a poll on it  but I think it's so subjective that it's best to get people's individual thoughts on it.

It was always something that interested me "Who is the best sportsperson of all time?". For me it was Michael Jordan. The man was in a team sport but as an individual he was able to totally dominate a sport for the guts of 10 years (MVP in 1988 and 1998). The things he could do on a basketball court were so innovative and on another level than anyone else in the game that for me he was the best sportsperson I've ever seen.

What do the rest of you think? Tiger? Ali? I'm sure their can be justification for them all. If we get a few different nominations I'll maybe change this to a poll and see what results we get.

What's that got to do with the price of cabbage?

Nothing to do with cabbage at all!

Did help them fund their title assults though!

And Man Ure sold a load of geansai's to fund their's and Chelsea used an oil baron. Hasn't got much to do with the discussion in fairness I don't think Ronaldo is that bothered how they come up with the cash to pay him as long as it arrives every week!

Is it something to do with the fact Munster are so strong in the competition that the 3 Irish teams are rated highly whereas the Scottish teams are all in the fourth tier because they're ket?

In fairness though Cardiff and Osprey's would wipe them on last year's form!

QuoteHow is the size of a club measured?

I'd say 9 European Cups would be a fair measurement not to mention I think 31 domestic titles, worlds richest club the last 3 years, an 80K capacity stadium, world record transer fees  etc etc etc

Being funded by the government didn't help them with any of that??

What's that got to do with the price of cabbage?

It's got nothing to do with size of the club or probably even football for that matter. Had United been based in London there may have been a fair chance he would have stayed also.

Manchester is a shite hole and comparing the quality of life he would have in Madrid would far exceed that in Manchester which for me is the main reason he wants to go... fair play to him I say sure United have got Nani and he's going to be just as good  ;D ;D

Good question Uladh. I would give him a reprieve on the last day. He isn't suited to marking the HF who is acting as an extra midfielder. A boy like Maguire or Little would suit him well imo so I would definitely give him another rattle. Horses for courses, you could saee McEldowney get another run out also!

Yeah just has a look at it there... dodgy enough stuff. It seems as if a few French players just lost the plot completely! And as for U-20 some of those lads are HUGE!

paddy bradley will never ever be fit to lace peter canavan's boots. dont even put the 2 in the same sentence!

What? Catch a grip! I wouldn't judge Paddy Bradley now but whenever he's finished and we'll measure they're achievements against eachother and see who's fit to lace whose boots!

Here's the updated top ever scorers from Ulster (as of 3rd June 08)...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/northern_ireland/the_championship/7456987.stm

Paddy Bradley now only 9 points behind Canavan.

Don't know hoe accurate most GAA stats are though. The Tribune says McDonnell has 17 goals, while the BBC says 15.

Holy shit he's gonna be top scorer in Ulster ever by a long way and he'll probably do it this season as well! Only 27 so another 4/5 good years in him yet I would imagine.

Looking forward to this one as well, should be close to a full house in Omagh, but trying to get through the town on a Saturday will prove to be a nightmare. The team that wins, will be one that deploys the better tactics. Can we deal Bradley and stop the supply of ball into him, and can Derry cope with the small, nippy Fermanagh forwards. To be honest, I think this one is a tough one to call, and there'll defiently only be a few scores in it. On paper Derry are by far the better team but few teams out do Fermanagh in terms of hunger and determination. Screenexile is McElroy playing much club football at the minute? Did he only come on as a sub the other week?

Well he wasn't around for our first Championship game but he has shown up hen he can and was around the week before the Banagher game. He's only been availabl for a couple of matches and trainings and we haven't lost al year so it was prudent to stick with a winning team for the gam but when needed he came on and made a big difference for us and even grabbed a nice point.

The sooner Fermanagh are out of the championship and the qualifiers the better so we can get him back full time ;)
