Quote from: JimStynes on September 18, 2024, 05:36:42 PMWould Joe be a well respected barrister or a bit of a head the ball?

I've been told his confidence outweighs his ability.

In 1977, Derry having won the previous two Ulsters, Armagh scored three goals against us en route to an eleven point win. Armagh's All-Ireland semi-final couldn't be settled in normal time. Armagh lose final by a rake.

In 2024, Derry having won the previous two Ulsters, Armagh scored three goals against us en route to an eleven point win. Armagh's All-Ireland semi-final couldn't be settled in normal time.

My prediction for tomorrow:

Armagh by 4/5.

Quote from: AustinPowers on July 23, 2024, 07:41:01 PMHow would you describe  a dive bar?

Only time I ever heard of it  was in a pet shop boys song

Dark, long, pool table in the back, juke box. Toilet door that doesn't lock. Big stainless steel tub full of ice cold long neck beer bottles where the label just slides off as they pull the beer out of it. At least one of Pabst Blue Ribbon or Miller High Life on tap. Usually have a beer and a shot special for about $8 and they can't keep Jameson Proper 12 now on the shelf.

If anyone knows, Puck knows.

Quote from: paddyjohn on July 23, 2024, 07:45:56 PMI heard only 2 refs got anywhere near the standard required. Talk of Derry refs coming in for championship.
the last thing you would want would be Barry Cassidy doing your games!

Would get him out of our way.

RIP Pauric, always came across as a decent spud back in the 90's in UUJ..

Can't have been that old.

58/59 I reckon. Another one that stops you in your tracks.

First came across him when he was outstanding as a very young full back in the 1982 Tully MacRory Cup final, playing alongside the late 5 Sams from this parish. I think big Red and Gareth won Corn na nOg medals in the curtain raiser on the same day.

A mainstay of the Poly for a lifetime.

Condolences to the O'Neill family.

Brian  Conlon First Derivatives who died in 2019 also played that day
remember heading to the game in casement as a kid

Brian would have been the main danger on that team.

Had a look at the two teams; very few recognisable names on the abbey team, really only DJ. There were six starters from mitchels; amazing how times changed for them.

Or the really lucky ones in Derry.

First night we landed in NYC, a few years ago, the two of us went for a burger. Bill came to about $16. Handed over a $50 bill. The nice waiter asked if we wanted change.

Quote from: Norm-Peterson on July 22, 2024, 09:51:24 AMI see Brolly said on twitter that his grandmother was from Donegal. I assume that is on his fathers side. Given that his mother's side are from the Coalisland region that means he actually doesn't have much Co.Derry ancestry. All this talk about Derryness from a man with 25% ancestry from the county.
There is no such as county purity. Many people are county "mongrels"  so to speak. Love is not defined by county.

All 16 of my Great Great Grand Parents were born in Mayo. So there's little or no Mongels blood, but probably plenty of inbreeding.

Similar, all 16 great great grandparents born in the shadow of either Slieve Gallion or Carntogher. Although my paternal grandmother was born on the Tyne. No evidence of inbreeding.

Very quiet polling station. Only one party with a presence outside and only one with tellers (I think that's what they call them) inside. Same party btw.

Quote from: Brendan on July 01, 2024, 01:32:38 PMEven at underage you'll see the higher the grade the lower the scorelines

Last two under 16 division 3 games I went to watch my daughter playing in, both opponents played with two sweepers.
The game between the two of them will decide the league winners.

Best of luck to all the semi-finalists.

Quote from: ClubScene13 on June 28, 2024, 03:13:47 PMWas good to see McKinless back on Saturday - whatever people want to say about the man he is an immense footballer. Covers every blade of grass and gets on serious possession - I thought he was the main reason for Derry's upturn in form on the day.

If their main men can show up they have a chance, I hope they can get over the line as Kerry v Dublin is not the final the rest of the country wants to see regardless of what you're told on RTE.

McKinless is Derrys main man in my opinion. Without him they couldnt beat Kerry. If Kerry can handle him at weekend they will win

So hammer the hammer?
