Is there much point having a schools team if 1. they don't include certain schools and 2. if they are taking hammerings like today? Mountrath are in the Senior B so what's the point in a schools team playing A if they don't have the Mountrath lads? I can't see the benefit.

Decent comeback from Laois coming up to half time after being 8 points down early on. Reilly tormenting us as usual.

The team that took t othe field today is effectively this years minor team. Very worrying scoreline indeed!

Reilly would be delighted to see Strong marking him during the odd period of time he's not heading towards the Meath posts! Need someone alot tighter than Strong!

It will be some evening for Farrell trying to contain Reilly who's done us damage in the past.

Weather's not supposed to be too bad on Saturday. If Strad organise a fella selling cups of tay and soup they'll make a fortune for the war chest!

OTF the Meath game will give a much clearer indication as to how Creedon will pick his team for the league opener injuries permitting. Two very different teams for the previous two games.

I would never question the mans committment to the Laois jersey and he stood up manys a time. The televised league game v Cork a couple of years back showed his metal.
I didn't realise he was that bad with injury. It's just a pity the likes of himself and Willie have had to leave the fold when so many new young lads are coming through.

It would help the team if the likes of Butch Stapleton could give it one more year to help with the younger team and panel members as well as filling one of the corner positions. He's still young enough.

Very good score to put up at this time of year.

Saturday night will be tasty now as Meath really fancy themselves this year and McEntee seems to have everyone on board including the supporters who are attending in big numbers. It's the O'Byrne cu p but I would think this game will be as close to a league encounter as you'll get so we'll learn alot more from Laois. Expect a hard hitting game with plenty of good football and our lads will have to be on the ball from the start as Meath are flying at the minute.

Just realised my error, it was Tadgh Dowling of Rathdowney/Errill I meant.

Doran is a very good keeper but Fleming is worth his place for now though and I think it will be between him and Rowland for the jersey!

They also won a Junior B title in 1986

They train on the old Milltown pitch however adult games are played in Ballylynan and I see some underage games have been played in Barrowhouse. They would draw from the same area as Milltown did. The likes of Sean and Martin dempsey played for Milltown back in the day.

Milltown were similar in the Joseph's area, but seemingly didn't win the Intermediate. Thought they had,

Milltown won a Junior A title in 1979 according to Laois Gaa website. I thought it was later than that myself. I think they contested an intermediate final in themid to late 80's. They were a good group of hurlers for a football area but always played second fiddle to the football. Didn't get the rub of the green either as from talking to lads involved they felt that they were always treated a bit differently to the traditional hurling teams. It was Noel Peacock who drove the Milltown idea and he organised underage teams for a few years but it eventually died out.
