Post by: Donnellys Hollow on September 22, 2009, 07:05:47 PM
Anyone heading down to the ploughing?

Heading down to it myself tomorrow. Might have to locate the RTÉ News tent if Sharon Ní Bheoláin is there again!  :o

What is the correct way of saying it?
Laois had a hurler call Paddy Ruschitzko and have a town called Ratheniska. Is there some Polish connection?

Rath-en-eska pronounce the I with an e at least that's how I pronounced it when I hurled with them back in the say . Polish coal miners came to work in Laois in the early 1900s

Eh? Where were the mines?! I know there were some in Castlecomer, all right. Pretty sure Paddy Ruschitzko was born in American to an Irish woman, but am open to correction on that.

RTE are a shambles when it comes to pronunciation!

I attended my first ploughing championships yesterday for 20 plus years, as I remembered lots of machinery, music, mud and little or no watching of the ploughing.

Official attendance figure for the three days was 200,550 down on last year but still big money made for the organisers.

More so because of the weather I'd say... great lead generator for small business and great for young farmers to wear tan shoes with jeans and get pissed talking about John Deere's
