GAA Discussion / Re: Tailteann Cup 2025
June 13, 2025, 02:10:12 PM
Big day tomorrow for Kildare GAA. The hurlers have the Dubs and then it's time to get one back against Offaly.
We were so poor both times we played them, but upped the levels

Dan Flynn is back on form, and we have introduced some cut from half back with Gill. But, we have lads like Kirwan, Gibbons and McCormack who many reckoned would not even be in the 26 due to injury...

Laois' shooting was woeful at times and they faded badly in the end.
I hope Kildare don't go too mad this week and give the Dubs a rattle. Physically they are well able but there are levels and levels.

I'm not buying no frees means a game is flowing.
If backs can pull and drag a forward and stop chances it's hardly good.

Hope the second GAA+ game is a bit better. New York being eaten alive.

As we get into the business end of the season you will see more lads 'buying' advantages ie running into lads screaming for it to be moved up after they catch a ball.
That rule needs to be looked at, as when this does happen people will lump this one rule in with all the good one.

Also, I think you should be allowed drop the ball after a foul as opposed to hand it back, because lads can jump on the player who fouled the ball and then it pressures the ref.

The 50m dissent rule was a big worry but ya know what...lads have just STFU now and you don't see mouthing.

It's one year in and it was never going to be perfect but Christ the games are great to watch and the players seem to be enjoying it more.

I'd argue the case on a lot of defenders eg Sean Kelly. Can you imagine him in the full forward line being bottled up and being pushed out from goal and still be expected to get a yard and score?

Like Shane Walsh from a skill set is hard to match. Fully both feet and drifts out too. Conroy is a decent all-rounder as he has decent footwork in tight spaces. Can move well for a big man as well.

And being from Kildare I'd always put a mention in for Johnny Doyle who was a whippet who shone at midfield, half forward and the inside line. In the modern game him coming from the half backs and swinging over would be solid. And again had vision and an engine.

That's a fair point but I do think the GAA show their support for the clubs in terms of grants, coaching, etc. Look at the CĂșl Camps - a huge movement and massive success that will have thousands of kids buzzing and in their gear.

But the national media and plenty in it barely have a clue of the Tailteann Cup or the likes, so what hope has the clubs.
County managers warring with clubs helped to push the split season and then some joirnos were not keen on split season as they would have to actually find stories (and there are so many great ones).

You won't have Muyrphy at corner back or even wing back BUT he has the ability to collect under pressure inside and be a target man and on the flip be a big unit on the edge of the sqaure too. He can fetch a ball in the middle third. Spray passes in too.

Kilkenny against Galway really showed everything he can do. Dictate from deep, control things, break tackles and shoot. And he was a 14 for a spell too.

I think that is something that is key. Huge difference playing with play in front or you compared to back to goal and having to come and collect it.

I'd argue the all-rounder doesn't need to rely on others as much and can take a game on himself.

I would have Offaly over Kildare before start of TC, but they don't seem to be going as well.
I'd love them in the 1/4 Final at home.
Meath and Louth both drained themselves in Leinster and are not bad, but not great.

She has been speaking up a while, and since she did there's less coverage.
Like 2 years ago she was everywhere and now when she speaks up on this subject you don't see her as often...

The more the US folk become aware of what's going on the more this stuff will happen.

I see the MAGA heads are losing their shite over Greta on the freedom flotilla. Lindsey Graham made said he hopes she can swim on X...like they don't even bother hiding it.

Quote from: tiempo on June 02, 2025, 10:20:55 AMTwo weeks in a row at the start of the league Donegal had injuries, week 1 Jim blamed the new rules, week 2 he blamed the drive to Kerry, neither week did he (who is in control of workload and warm up) consider the content he's putting on as being root cause

2 weeks ago Caolan McGonagle went off injured v Tyrone, at the weekend he wasn't named in the panel for the game v Cavan, then he starts the match, in the role of god-like guru these are the kind of inner workings of the mind that give an edge it seems

This is something I NEVER understand. Why don't any GAA journalists or pundits mention the facs of 100s of training sessions and no real recovery?!
As I said if they have a gap week they are driving around the country looking for behind closed doors games.

The GPA never seem to mind these demands as they frame it as 'the GAA' - Jarlath has them running on the beaches at 7am seemingly...

The talk of what we might prefer in terms of a product is not something I'm swayed by. We would all love to see the best teams playing classic games at inter-county but we will follow our own clubs and counties no matter how crap or the level they play at.

The GAA should not be making decisions based on fans and armchair supporters. As it stands the players all love games week in week out. The managers can manage their workload and are more than happy to flog them for months on end and would stick in a few challenge matches if they could.

If we went back and just dragged the season out more there would be more dead rubbers. Going way back to straight knock-out times I don't remeber anyone saying that it was awful a team had no games fo X months after all they put in.

There are plenty of games now but I do like the idea of an odd gap as we get to the business end of it. Like who are we tweaking this for? Thousands of kids go to the nuerseries around the country to actually play the games. Then they might go home an watch Liverpool...what harm there? Isn't the main thing that they are playing the games?!
I'll never buy the exposure arguement when most county managers don't let their lads near a mic or do any promo content.

Armagh will still want more minutes in Rian and might mix it up.
But like said already if they have a chance to get rid of Galway it's something to go for.
Also Galway have had 2 very tough games with a lot of hits.
You'd imagine some knocks are there.

Its mad how the URC is still on the go without any real chatter.
Munster fans going mad over Sharks antics is funny - seemingly not what rugby is about sir!!
