Yeah, Mullins has made very few appearances. Boyle made a couple earlier in the league but didn't really impress - still looks to be too lightweight for senior inter-county.

Sweeney had a couple of good performances, or at least showed potential so he has a decent chance of making the squad. Interestingly, for the U-21s it's been Douglas and Doherty rather than Sweeney that have been racking up the big scores.
There has been very little of Barry Regan seen (mainly due to injury I think) - he could also be under pressure.

I might have missed a few from this, but it's a possible 30:

Goalkeepers: Clarke, K O'Malley

Defence: L O'Malley, Cafferkey, McLoughlin, A Higgins, Vaughan, Gardiner, Nallen, Heaney, Howley, Cunniffe, K Higgins, Gardiner

Midfield: Parsons, S O'Shea, McGarrity, Harte

Forwards: A Moran, T Mort, BJP, Dillon, B Moran, Ronaldson, A O'Shea, A O'Malley, C Mort, B Kelly, B Regan, M Sweeney

Apparently the senior championship squad of 30 has been announced to the panel. I haven't seen/heard anything officially, does anyone know the 30, or the lads that haven't made it?

GAA Discussion / Re: Leitrim v Roscommon 31-05-09

Massive blow for Laythrum. A great young player, I think Leitrim could still get past the Rossies but it's hard to see them really threatening Mayo without Mulligan.

QuoteSo can you say that all Westies are card carrying FG voters or is your tar brush only directed in one direction?

Well I'm not certain of the average SF vote in the republic but I'd imagine it's roughly 8-10%.
Seeing as they currently have 33% of the vote in this poll, I was looking for a reason why that would be. The SF vote is significantly higher in the 6 counties so that's one possible source of the votes on this poll.
Anyway, it was only an option I put down out of boredom at work, no need to get excited  ;)

And yes, I would vote FG in the next election by the way  :D ;)

There is no way that SF will get anything near 40% or that FF will get double the FG vote.
So why are the results of this poll so out of touch?

1. The GAA voters are completely at odds with the rest of the country, which I find hard to believe since the GAA is one of the largest organisations in the country
2. The Nordies are voting on this poll in the hope that people will be influenced by the results of this poll - hardly likely to work.
3. Nobody has any interest in voting on this poll (apart from a few diehards) as they are disillusioned with Irish politics

I'll go with number 3....

Looks like Pearce plans on playing for Mayo again at some stage in the future - whether that's next year or 10 years could depend on if he's offered a contract at the end of the season.

Hanley considering his options
15 April 2009

Brisbane Lions player Pearce Hanley has vowed to return home to Mayo if he isn't offered a new contract at the end of the AFL season in September.

The teenager has his heart set on a long career in the AFL, but admits he isn't taking anything for granted.

"I want to spend many years playing in the AFL before finishing my career in Gaelic football," he said.

"I won't hear about a new contract until the end of the season but I have considered my options if it's not good news. I could go back to the GAA, but I'm not really thinking about that now.

"I just want to play as many senior games for the Lions as I can."

Lions recruiting manager Graeme Allen believes Hanley could make the same impact in the AFL as fellow Irishman Martin Clarke.

"We're very pleased with Pearse. He's shown us he's as talented as Marty Clarke," Allen said.

QuoteWeddings, funerals or just Mass in general..
My late Grans house was done in the space of 45mins that she went to mass, she lived almost beside the Church too,so they were watching her movments which makes it even harder to take,to think these c***ts were watching a 80 year old and what she was doing.
They were caught and yes they were Travellers

Same thing happened to my granny. She was in her 80s at the time living alone in a rural area. She went into the dining room one day to see a man peering in the window (where there was a fair amount of 'good furniture' as it was called). When she asked him what he was doing he said he was selling gates and wanted to talk to the man of the house. The granny said he was up the fields and would be back soon with the shotgun so you better go quick!  :D (the grandfather was dead over 10 years at this stage).
The man left in his van but he knew well there was no man there I'm sure. The following mroning Sunday neighbours spotted travellers parked up on the side of the road which wouldn't have been common in our village. Granny left to travel over to our house for a visit (we lived about an hour away at the time). When she came back the next day, the dining room had been cleared of all the good furniture.
The gardai said they knew it was Travellers from Ballina but could never prove it or prosecute  >:(
So I'd have very little sympathy for them because of that, and because I lived next door to an infamous Co. Galway pub that served Traveller weddings and funerals - you wouldn't believe the neck on some of them. My mother opened the front door once to find two traveller women walking out of our garage wheeling the 3 bikes belonging to myself, brother and sister.

Do you really honestly believe he was calling to sympathise and just happened to arrive when everyone had left  ::)

QuoteIt is understood the man who was under suspicion arrived on the scene about ten minutes later.

And would the fact that he was already under suspicion not tell it's own tale

I know some posters may say that the 'settled' community is prejudiced/discriminatory/racist against the 'Traveller' community (I can't see how Travellers are a different race tbh) but is it any wonder when you read this kind of thing.

Human behaviour doesn't get much lower than this  >:(

Quote
A SUSPICIOUS caller arrived at the house of dead Garda Robert McCallion on Monday while his family were attending his State funeral.

The man, who is understood to be a member of the Travelling community, entered the grounds of the McCallion home at Park Road, Swinford, Co. Mayo, some ten minutes after the family had departed for the funeral Mass in the local Our Lady Help of Christians Church.

When questioned about the purpose of his presence by a garda who was on duty, the man claimed that he wanted to sympathise with the family.

The head of the Mayo Garda Division, Chief Superintendent Tony McNamara, confirmed last night there had been an incident but added there had been no arrest and there would be no charges.

Chief Supt McNamara added: "It has been decided that in view of the extreme sensitivity of the whole situation the matter will not be taken any further."

The McCallion family, father, Bob; mother, Nancy; brother, John and sisters, Noreen and Deirdre, vacated the family home around 12.30pm for the funeral Mass.

It is understood the man who was under suspicion arrived on the scene about ten minutes later.

Johnno has said none of the old-timers will be playing this Sunday - although I wouldn't be surprised if we saw one or two of them get a run near the end.
With the U-21s hopefully rested, the oldies might be needed if we're leaking scores.

Great to hear Keith Higgins will be back shortly - he has managed to combine the hurling and football over the last couple of years so I'd imagine the two management teams will thrash out some arrangement without coming to blows  ;)

QuoteThe Catholic Church comes in for some criticism at times (sometimes justified) but the practices as named above are the type of things that establish good practice in life. I for one certainly felt that this aspect of our upbringing had a positive affect in terms of our conscience in comparison to friends who maybe weren't as religiously involved. I don't believe in ramming it down people's throats but I suppose that having the right amount of religion in your life can benefit you immensely, too little and (especially) too much can tend to have negative affects.

Yes, the Catholic church (or any Christian religion really) has a lot of good moral teachings. But they're not exclusive to any/all religions. I'm perfectly capable of deciding "all on my own" what is right or wrong, good or bad without a priest or the bible telling me. I have a conscience and can make my own judgements.
That's what I've done so far in my adult life and shock, horror, no criminal convictions yet  ;)

I'd probably classify myself as an Agnostic.
All religion is a con as far as I can see (power and greed mainly), and is used as a reason/excuse for war and hatred all over the world.
I only go to weddings and funerals these days - haven't even gone at Christmas for the last couple of years. The only reason I would go at Christmas would be to meet people and to keep the parents happy.
