i think the main reason for finding someone local isnt anti- Gleeson or anti- southerner i just think it makes more sense to have someone whos not spending 20 hours a week in the car travelling up and down. its a tough enough job without being on the road. thats my honest opinion and mental fatigue surely must kick in, especially after 5 long seasons starting in the summer realistically!

Probably Gregory... he's the only one i honestly think of with a track record of winning! and winning consistently (bar last year lol!) why not give it someone like him supported by a good back room team.

Re: Carlow i'm maybe being flippant there but we should be targeting those games as must wins, i think thats part of my point. apologies  ;D

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 27, 2024, 05:40:50 PMSo which Antrim man are you recommending?

Not sure what standard of players we have to match teams physically? We have plenty skill btw but over 70 plus minutes the big teams grind you down.

Bitta disrespectful on Carlow, they'd a better score difference to us and with 15 players on the park they could have won.

We did target that game as a must win..

I think there is a selection process with interviews for the post, not sure Gregory would be interested it's been a tough job for anyone never mind locals, but anyone can apply.

Darren has three very good knowledgeable Antrim men by his side, they might want to be in the reckoning too.

Personally I much prefer the outsider, one example, Dinny, was a cracking manager and was able to instil his passion for the game to the players without any baggage.

Bringing Antrim natives generally brings the negativity from the barflys/hurlers in the ditch.

The current players in Antrim age wise isn't bad, potentially there's some growth there, wouldn't be the worst time to take a team
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

Its clear every interview how much respect Gleeson has(two way thing)
I think outside is the only way, long term i think our goal is just maintain Div 1 and Senior champ. This chat of Leinster finals etc. Weve a lot of good years left in our top performers, we need a conveyor belt of talent coming to support them. Easier said than done

There are probably a lot of fellas in the county of senior club level but not at a county level s&c wise. Decky McCloskey for example

Surely wee Micky McShane has to be in with a shout if Gleeson moves on?

dont think he's done enough - took Slaughtneil for 6 weeks of the year after they got put out of football? and Tyrone? hardly a tier 1 manager.

And Gleeson's CV was?

imtommygunn

He's from Tipp and they all know about hurling down there  ;D

Micky McShane would be a good shout in my opinion. Dick O'Kane also or would Johnny Campbell or Close want to take it on? Any of the underage coaches inside the county set up ready to step up? I hope Gleeson stays on another year as it's all been positive from players about him. We'll have to pay top dollar no matter who it is from outside.

Think he was tbf.

But let's face it - his entire managerial CV consisted of being in the backroom team of a Tier 2 county (at the time).  And he's from Tipp.

Or inside now the precedent is there.

Who inside the county apart from Dick O'Kane is there?

When you go round the clubs there's not too many options and I know I'm advocating for an Antrim man, but I think Gregory. Ticks most of the boxes.

If he was interested then give him a bash at it!

Couple of good men in with him city and country ones like Gleeson had - Karl mckeegan & Brian Mcfall for example!

Karl McKeegan is managing Armagh with John Carson, would he jump ship?
