I was. It wasn't a bad performance from ye're lads. Ye were the better team for 40 minutes. Possibly ran out of steam. Great to see Derek Conroy still giving it everything on the field.
Awe stop hesh he Wundt do it when he could,,, always rated him as a youngster but didn't commit when it came to serious senior training he left after 03 I think maybe 04,,,, i think mmelick/ timahoe div 2 final

Ballyfin put up a serious score against Clonaslee. Mountmellick can't be too happy with performance against St Joseph's 2nd team. Doesn't bode well for championship. Good wins for Kilcavan and Rosenallis.
You tend to get odd results this week every year. Longest weekend outside of Christmas. Lads will generally head off, teams weakened etc.

True. You'll actually get that anytime in the leagues. Weird results and the like. No one really cares about the league in Laois.

Derek Conroy did commit as much as he could back in 2003 he was in the team and got a serious ankle injury which dogged him for a few years he was immense for Laois in the few years before micko came in and was always a terrific footballer.
Ask anyone around the age of 37-41 about him.
He was one of the finest juvenille players aswell and was well ahead of his time.
He has put an awful lot in Laois and the GAA and the quote from 1980 is childish and distasteful .
Great result for his old club last night the Rock beating Ballyfin!

I see Ballyfinn conceded against Mountmellick tonight. That puts MM 4 points ahead of the chasing pack. I dont think Courtwood, Rosanalis or Timahoe will be too pleased. Ballyfinn were out of the race and are also safe from relegation and have given the proverbial fingers up to the rest of the clubs

I wasnt having a go at Ballyfinn. Since i posted above i had a look at all the divisions and bar Div 1 A&B the rest are full of walkovers. Its particularly noticeable in the lower divisions and under age. Look at the heath in Div 2. they only played one or two games and then folded. Underage is a joke.

its at critical levels. Our leagues were meant to grow stronger with the advent of late summer championship, all they've done is grow weaker and prolonged.

Sound, whatever. It was a genuine question.
Mountmellick v Rosenallis in the final?
Rosenalis vs courtwood in the semi final first. Winners then play mountmellick.
Absolutely crazy that courtwood won't get promoted even if the win the final (provided they they get there). Much better format that the top 2 play off. Or we could leave the dark age and the team with the most points at the end of the season actually win the league. This would improve intensity for each match..relegate 2 that seems to work keeps teams going to avoid the drop..
Actually think fewer matches in the league would help big time, also there are 24 trams in division 2 and 3, id like to see 3 divisions of 8 between these. You would end up having 7 divisions of 8 teams, basically the way the hurling is, Have one up and one down from each league also instead of two. Also run it so that there is all hurling one week all football the week after or visa versa, makes it clearer for players when matches are on, also help out duel players clubs big time and would allow football/hurling only clubs to schedule the year out better. The fewer games i think would also lead to more intensity because the matches would actually mean more and there would be less likely hood of the the mass forfeits that we are seeing.

Mountmellick and Rosenallis are promoted.
What was the point of a play off if the top 2 are already promoted?
It was just a case of more bullshitology from the county board
Caught the second half of the final of this last night.
Mountmellick just that bit stronger. Courtwood a bit toothless in attack although MM only scored 1-2 in the second half either.

It was more entertaining than the Division 1 final i thought.
Can't see mellick doing much in the senior championship on what I saw but I suppose they will have a few extra players from their gaels arrangement with kilcavan and castletown.
Courtwood missed Doyle and Luttrell badly.
Yeah Courtwood seemed to be missing a lot of players and had a number of U17's on the bench to make it look a bit better. They battled hard but lacked the quality with those missing. MM only scored 1-02 for the last 35-40 mins which would have to be a worry against an Intermediate team missing a load

Are they back for championship. Seems a lot of clubs nationwide are experiencing this trend of young men traveling now. I recentley read where its an epidemic in club football in Kerry of all places.

Some will be back, some won't. Can't blame young lads for taking the chance to see a bit of the world with work or football. Surely better than hanging around for our crappy leagues.
