GAA Discussion / U.S. College Rugby
May 10, 2015, 05:31:54 PM
St Mary's Moraga in California have just won their second Division 1 college US championship. They are called the Gaels and in the 1950s had a GAA team. Some of you guys may have played in GAA games in Moraga in the 80s and 90s. One of the winning players yesterday was Kevin O'Connor son of Tom O'Connor who was a mainstay of the Boru GAA club in San Francisco.

I was in the gym yesterday and listened to two young fellows talking about their teams in the Mid Ulster league and about other teams that they hated and did not want to see promoted.  This negative mindset reminds me of a minority of Man Utd fans who seem to think that they have had a successful season just because Liverpool look like not winning the premier league.  It is in stark contrat to Coach Kelly from Notre Dame who I met recently at Breezy Point in NY, when I told him that my US cousins were big Boston College fans he replied "It doesn't matter we love them all".  Sentiments that I'm trying to embrace!

General discussion / Tyrone Tribulations

The excellent Tyrone Tribulations website has reached half a million hits according to today's Irish News.  One of the main anonymous contributors is a former Coalisland area resident and 38 year old father of two.
I fully expect him to be exposed as a teacher in West Belfast.

Thanks folks, I'm going to meander to Butte stopping off at different places.  After Butte I am thinking of heading to the coast and going back sourth to SF.  I'm out there for three weeks and have no specific timetable.

General discussion / Butte, Montana

Folks, I'm hoping to drive from San Francisco to Butte, Montana in July.  It's a place I've wanted to visit since I heard about the "Butte brogue" and the Irish that worked on the mines there.  Has anyone been and have they any recommendations?  Thanks

General discussion / Re: THE GADGET THREAD

On my third Jawbone Up since May.  I really like the functions, I have a desk job and I have it set to buzz after 30mins to make me get up and walk.  It also is good for making you work towards the target of 10,000 steps per day.  I monitor my sleep and sleep much better than I thought.
The down side is the reliability. I bought from John Lewis and they have replaced two without question.  Bit expensive at £100 but I don't complain when I buy pints at 5 euros!

The driver of JFk's car in Dallas was William Greer from Stewartstown.  Some tried to pin blame on him for not accelerating away after the first shot.

Bloke starts his new job at the zoo and is given three tasks. First is to clear the exotic fish pool of weeds. As he does this a huge fish jumps out and bites him. To show who is boss, he beats it to death with a spade.

Realizing his employer won't be best pleased he disposes of the fish by feeding it to the lions, as lions will eat anything.

Moving on to the second job of clearing out the Chimp house, he is attacked by the chimps who pelt him with coconuts.

He swipes at two chimps with a spade killing them both.. What can he do? Feed them to the lions, he says to himself, because lions eat anything...

He hurls the corpses into the lion enclosure.

He moves on to the last job which is to collect honey from the South American Bees.

As soon as he starts he is attacked by the bees. He grabs the spade and smashes the bees to a pulp.

By now he knows what to do and shovels them into the lions cage because lions eat anything.

Later that day a new lion arrives at the zoo. He wanders up to another lion and says "What's the food like here?"

The lions say: "Absolutely brilliant, today we had Fish and Chimps with Mushy Bees
