General discussion / Official Leicester City Thread
January 28, 2016, 07:40:36 PM
As next week is the FA Cup, then Leicester will be top of the Premiership in February.

Apparently, most teams who are top in February go on to win the League. Can the Foxes do it?

Maybe a poll needed. Gymnastics on television now includes super slow motion in high definition. Should it carry a NSFW or Over-18 classification?

Do you like the name that your parents gave you?

If not, what would you have preferred to be called?

General discussion / Motorcyclists
August 11, 2015, 02:41:29 PM
Last weekend yet another death caused by racing motorbikes on the road.

Organisers talk about feeling the pain, heavy heart etc etc. Bikers families talk about wanting to continue, because that what the motorcyclist would have wanted.

Motorcyclists do it for the speed, the thrill and knowing that one mistake can wipe them out.

Compare that to an incident I witnessed on the way home yesterday. An elderly man bumped his car into a motorcyclist, knocking him off his motor bike. The motorcyclist proceeded to dance, roar and threaten the elderly gent. Hmmm, maybe motorcyclists are afraid of getting killed.

I've just discovered that Maria Bello came out a few years ago and is now living with another woman. So that's another woman that I'm never gonna get. Can Monday get any worse!

What is your disappointing news?

General discussion / Leap Second, 30th June 2015
May 28, 2015, 12:41:52 PM
What will you do with the extra second on 30th June 2015?

http://www.eweek.com/cloud/google-says-its-ready-for-leap-second-on-june-30.html

I was thinking that if people donated their extra second to me then I could get a day off work.

General discussion / Bullying in the Workplace
May 18, 2015, 01:23:54 PM
I'm reading a lot about bullying in the press these days, and teachers will know why kids do it.

Does bullying happen because technically competent people get promoted, but have no man management or personal engagement skills?

Or do we all need to show a bit of backbone and be not afraid to take criticism?

General discussion / Browse Aloud

Are there any free alternatives to Browse Aloud which helps partially sighted people browse websites? Browse Aloud must be purchased by the site owner, and allows users to highlight text which is then spoken out loud.

No mention here of Patrick Nelis?

Fair play to Patrick and I hope he is back enjoying life.

General discussion / Google Self-Driving Car
November 26, 2014, 12:43:40 PM
Read all about it here:

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/may/28/google-self-driving-car-how-does-it-work

Question: If you were a developer or analyst working on this, then how would you program it to behave in the following scenario?

You're tootling along at 25mph on a narrow two-way road and all of a sudden a pram with a baby inside rolls out in front of you. Should the driver-less car:
a) Divert left into a tree potentially killing the driver
b) Divert right into the oncoming traffic, potentially killing the driver and maybe a few others
c) Drive over the pram

Whilst new words arrive every year e.g. selfie, has anyone noticed words that disappearing?

e.g. Perv.

Back in the 1980's I would hear "stop that you perv" whereas nowadays it is "Ohhh kinky, do that again"

Any others?

Has anyone got some time on their hands? I would like a list of bullet points describing why a United Ireland would be a good thing.

All you have to do is go through the Scottish Indepenance arguments, and the Better Together arguments and pickout the ones that can be used for a United Ireland. A Nation Once Again.

Thanks in advance
