Quote from: trileacman on Today at 09:07:33 PMHad no idea the champions league was such a cash cow for clubs. Like I knew it made them money but the actual prize money is insane.

Qualifying for the UCL is worth 18.5 million
A win in the group stage is worth 2.1 million (x6 is 12.6million)
Topping the UCL league is worth at least 10 million
qualifying for the knock-out stage is another 1 million.

So from UCL so far this year, ignoring gate receipts, Liverpool have gathered up 42 million euro.
With 2 more wins in the group stage and if they get to the final they could receive another 22.7 million.
If they win that final and win the subsequent SuperCup final against the Europa league winners its another 11.5 million.

So in straight prize money Liverpool could make 76 million from this years UCL ignoring the extra 60 million in co-efficient money.

It used to be that money made the massive difference at that top level but they'll make much more just being in the Premier League these days.

Thought Garnacho looked decent.

Quote from: lurganblue on Today at 08:59:24 AMAnge has to go today doesnt he?  The league cup has been the only thing saving him.

You cant go away to that Everton side and let them put 3 past you.  They've barely scored in months fs

Noticed a headline earlier that was saying he's not under any pressure yet. I'd be very surprised if that's true.

There's not much positive to be said about a country that's President pardoned half his family and was then replaced by a President who may well pardon himself at some point. That must be the freedom they talk about so much.

Good deal for Derry. As said above 100k for use when it's generally sat empty at that time of day isn't bad plus if they keep on the sweet side of Philip O'Doherty then they might get something out of that relationship down the line.

Quote from: RedHand88 on January 18, 2025, 12:45:27 PMWould Hayes not have been involved in Cúl camps and the like?

This is the issue, involvement in the GAA as a number of levels.

Should someone be allowed
- be a member of the GAA
- paint lines on the field
- play minor
- play junior/reserves
- play senior
- play intercounty
- manage/coach minor
- manage coach reserves
- manage coach club
- manage/coach intercounty
- chair a club
- be on a provincial council
- become President of the GAA

Burns made a distinction between playing and coaching on the basis that the latter is an influence on others. You could argue that Hayes is not more likely to attack another player on the field than anyone else, and that the rules of the association would deal with that. You could reasonably simultaneously argue that he should not be put in a position of influence over others.

Gallagher is a bit more complicated, the evidence is unclear but there is quite a bit of it. You could also argue that it is in the past.

I'd argue that players have a higher profile than managers, so JB's reasoning behind getting involved in one and not the other is total BS in my opinion.

As for the evidence, unclear to us yes, but not sure what you mean by "quite a bit of it". I'd have thought if there was so much evidence he'd have been charged? Social media posts can't be considered evidence.

Burns made the point that a coach directs the conduct of other people in the association, whereas a player does not.

As for evidence, we don't want people convicted on rumours, but are you proposing that no person can limited in their GAA activities unless that have been charged with a criminal offence? How about Conor McGregor, he was not charged?

That's a nonsense to me. RG is coaching a team of adults so will they be influenced by how he conducts himself on or off the pitch or will they take his advice on how he wants them to play football and draw the line there.

Also, there's the next generations. More kids in Ireland now will want to grow up to be the next Kyle Hayes than the next Rory Gallagher. I think there probably needs to be a clear cut approach that anyone involved who is charged with something needs to be considered on a case by case basis. I'm no fan of RG but I just don't see how Burns can justify his involvement in that case and not others.

Didn't get to see the game yesterday as we had training but it was a great result. Still loads of football to be played though. Would love a forward and a keeper but Farke seems to be saying no business expected.

Quote from: imtommygunn on Today at 02:18:40 PMWhere was this? Probably cheaper to drive there no matter how far away...

We went to sonic 3 on saturday which I thought, for what it is, was decent.  It didn't quite keep the 5 year old captivated mind you.

We went to see Sonic 3 before Christmas. It's not bad but my wee man has been Sonic obsessed for the last 5 years so he loved it.

I'm in bits after that one. Felt like it was done after Saquon scored the touchdown then the Rams came flying back. Thankfully held on but hopes for next week will lie heavily in how badly injured Hurts is. Crazy game

I don't think he  meant to take him out of the game,  but  it  did look
Like he  put the knee in . He doesn't attempt to play the ball  with the foot so why  put the knee in?

Just on the first watch I thought he could have avoided the collision, would need to watch again in real time, slow mo makes things look worse

Looks deliberate enough. No call for the knee to be there at all. Darragh is on the ball already

Not for me. Player makes a move towards the movement of the ball and Canavan moves to it as well. Accidental in my opinion.

Is this a genuine quote? Saw it on Romano's page. Surely he didn't say that about his own team.

Rúben Amorim: "We are being the worst team maybe in the history of Man United, we have to acknowledge that".

Liverpool beat Brentford with late goals - We're going to win the league, nothing will stop us.

United beat Southampton who are on course to become the worst Premier League team ever to go what 12th or 13th.

Liverpool won with late goals to go 7 points clear at the top.

Dear me but there's levels to this.

Thought Kielty done well. Expected it to be a blue skies and green grass interview but he went after the big issues so credit to him. Jarlath I don't think handled it well and felt like he was waffling without really saying anything. He'll do well in politics.
