Quote from: WeGoAgain on Today at 11:02:32 AMGames could have still started next week. Round 3 had Donaghmore and Eglish playing each other. Why not make that the first round and redraw the remaining fixtures if that is the approach they are going with.

I also don't understand why it is such an issue this year that fixtures have to be redrawn. Cormac Munroe left the Tyrone panel last year once the league had started. There are probably others from last year as well which I can't remember as well. I can remember Clonoe once had 3 players leave the panel and there wasn't redraw of fixtures - so why is it a big issue this year?

The fixtures definitely were redone when those Clonoe players left

Maybe the best thing going forward is just leaving publishing fixtures until a week or so before the start date?

I stand corrected

Are you sure they were changed?

Quote from: Manning18 on Today at 10:39:49 AMGalway half forward line is definitely their weakest line, and another option (Cathal Sweeney) just dropped out through injury. So if the Derry injuries do arise, it's probably the area you'd be able to troubleshoot best

Who plays alongside McKinless in the event McEvoy and Doherty do indeed drop out? I assume they won't move Rodgers back on Comer again, leaving the task to McKaigue?

Shea Downey, Gilmore, Eunan Mulholland would be the natural half backs on the bench. Declan Cassidy has been used in half forward but is a 'middle third' player so could be used. Emmett Bradley is the best player on the bench so if there's a re-jig they could try get him into the 15 if the likes of McFaul goes back into the half back line.

Both u20's can play half back, but it'd be a long shot they would be brought in for a start.

In short.....it's hard to know  ;D  ;D

Don't agree Bradley is the best county player on the bench, seen all our games and his contribution has been very poor. Cassidy a much better aggressive and powerful player, has contributed alot more in the games he has been involved.

Matthew Downey, Jack Cassidy, Conleith McGuckain all left the panel in recent weeks-they are no misses currently.

Its the four certs being injured thats has left us vulnerable.

Quote from: square_ball on Today at 09:51:31 AMFunny enough I did see Lorcan Quinn was playing a bit of soccer so was wondering whether that was with management blessing. Who is our back up keeper now?

Was extremely harsh this fella didn't even get a runout in the McKenna Cup or that dead rubber NFL game against Dublin at Croke, with that sort of treatment most people would be very reluctant to stay

That is shocking poor from management if that is correct. I just assumed he played some minutes in McKenna cup but obviously not. Is it any wonder he walked away. Fair play to him as he obviously wants to play football

Quote from: toby47 on Today at 09:23:07 AMPanel named - obviously a few named won't be playing.

Do we know who is in the panel that hasn't been named that will be coming onto the bench?
Whats the story there?
Niall Loughlin not named on panel for one id say

He's out

What's the story there?

Injured - got an opp

Bench looking very light now, betwen those lads leaving the panel and few injuries im nervous for the rest of the season.

No mcgrogan, murphy, loughlin.
Jack cassidy, c mcguckian, m downey left, who else left? Mccarron & mcwilliams earlier in season

Realistically, of the guys that left I don't think any were going to get game time in championship - so you couldn't blame them for going back to clubs to get football.

McGrogan out for the year is a huge loss.
No idea on the length of time Nial O and Murphy will be out - but we really need both available.
If we pick up any more serious injuries, we'll really struggle.

Niall Loughlin got an opp this week, season over?
Eoin McEvoy out with hamstring injury.
Conor Doc out
Murphy not back on 26 yet, still injured.
Chrissy & Rogers were doubtful, but looks like they will play.
A few other rumours but nothing confirmed.

Matthew Downey, Jack Cassidy, Conleith McGuckain all left the panel in recent weeks.

After league Dan Higgins, Callum & Enda Downey, Conor McGrogan, Oisin McWIlliams & Ben McCarron were all cut off panel - before team holiday to Portugal.

2 u20's called up since their defeat. Ruairi Forbes & McDermott - Both straight onto the panel for tomorrows game.

That seems to be the lay of the land at the minute. Derry's panel getting thinner, after looking like t was bulking up earlier in the season. Another injury or 2 would seriously derail us, especially if it's to the likes of Rogers who is carrying a hamstring injury at the minute.

From the League Final panel where we were all getting optimistic about Derry's panel finally looking strong we will be missing 7 of the 26.
4 Starters - McEvoy, Doherty, McGrogan, Loughlin
3 Subs - Matthew Downey, Conleith McGuckain, Cormac Murphy.
Would it be a concern the number of players leaving panel mid season, seems to be alot especially given the number of injuries Derry have at moment?

Quote from: RedHand88 on Today at 10:21:34 AMIt's June in 2 weeks ffs. Why was it even left this late to begin with? Derry have their 6th found of club fixtures this weekend and have played more county games than us this year!
Don't be ridiculous. The May start has been the best thing Tyrone GAA have done in the last decade. The season has ran brilliantly the last two years with the Friday games and the May start date. League played through the best months of the year. Unfortunate change for Senior clubs having to wait an extra week this year but give me the current structure and calendar over a March/April start and lengthy gaps throughout the season.

Aye agree on the Friday nights, but last year club football went on to October, with training from January. So it's still taking up the most of the year.

No need to be training from January

May as well bring this thread back from the dead. Kenny is in with Pats now. Great for the LOI and there's a tasty tie with Duffer on Monday.
Not to drag it all up, but lads scoffing at some of the names being mentioned when the ex-boss is staying local shows his overall level. We will get what we're given when someone is eventually announced.

Mate of mine just pointed how Robbie Keane is doing well in Israel but he also sat on his arse doing nothing with the FAI for ages. Just kinda shows him up and why he is never really loved in Ireland - football Bono!

Daniel Flynn, Jack Seargeant, Mick O'Grady on the bench after the last day. So, we seem to be switching it up. Kevin Flynn is back and he is better than Seargeant anyways.

Obly real big call is keeper as the other lad has been a starter non-stop for years, even though many feel he is not reliable.

The problem is that the manual does not help solve all my situations that I have written. I have already read it but it didn't help me.

QuoteBare in mind as we've seen on here, the referee's handbook within the GAA Learning Portal has more important detail on some rules #minefield
Is there a referee manual? Maybe a casebook but where could I find it?

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 16, 2024, 11:02:12 AMOther question:
The ball may be knocked from an opponent's
hand(s) by flicking it with the open hand
But when the ball is released or is bouncing or soccer juggling, i.e. I mean when the ball is not in contact with the hand, can it be stolen by touching it or grabbing it with both hands?

You can't wrestle the ball away from an opponent if he has it in his possession (both hands) if the ball is open/unprotected then it can be tackled/flicked punched away or taken cleanly
So if a player holds the ball with two hands or even with one hand and his chest, can the ball only be stolen with an open hand? I notice a real difficulty in stealing the ball in this game, because being able to hold the ball in your hands makes it almost impossible to steal the ball, because in football there is more precarious control, whereas in rugby the control is absolute but there is tackle.

What do you think of my other doubts?

Please could anyone explain me what do Showing the Ball and Turning Twice with the ball mean?

Showing the ball and turning twice are specifically mentioned because there was always a common misconception that they were a foul.

"Showing the ball" is when the ball handler moves the ball away from their body whilst still in their hand/s, usually as a dummy/fake to deceive an opponent.  A nuance to understand with this, is that some more skillful players might do this with one hand.  Show the ball to one side and then step to the opposite side in an attempt to evade an opponent.  Again this is perfectly fine.  However when passing the ball from one hand and back to the other then the "original" hand needs to maintain contact with the ball as it moves from one hand to the other.  You can't throw the ball from one hand to the other. There needs to be an exchange from one hand to the other or a point, no matter how brief, where both hands are on the ball.  I believe the lack of understanding of this led to the belief "showing the ball" is a foul play.

"Turning twice" is generally a situation where a player attempts to evade an opponent by going one direction and then turning the opposite way and going a different direction, without ever playing the ball (taking a bounce or solo.)  Again, this is perfectly fine.  Generally, this action will border on the 4 steps rule (which isn't policed stringently in any case.)  Somehow it developed into a scenario where simply "turning twice" was seen as a foul in itself, which was never the case.
