It's never called a chipper either.

Any recommendations for chippy's in that part of the word?

The chipper is the machine inside the chippy that you feed spuds into and chips come out the other end.

In the Just Eat app it has a menu option for "Traditional Chipper" where all the nearby Chippers are.
Must be different for you Brits.
