The mark that Beggan set up with a 15m kick to the D is the one that any footballer should fancy taking on.

I reckon 90% of club players would go backwards or sideways from where Hughes kicked his. Most of us don't have 40m kicks in us, let alone under pressure.

Beggan hit a score from play today from just inside kilcoo's half. He just stroked it - didnt try to burst the ball. It made it over the bar with about 5 yards to spare. Don't know how he does it

Beggan's earlier point from play must have been at least 70 yds out, at a time when scores were hard to come by. Delighted for scotstown, always supported Kilcoo, but they ruined their reputaion with squalid tactics over the last few years.

Whether the call was corect or incorrect is irrelevant; refs will make mistakes, just like players will. Did any of the Tullamore players miss an easy score? Were they assaulted after the game by their own supporters? I don't understand why refs tolerate the abuse they receive; no refs, no games.

Newry Mitchels, winners of four Down SFC titles in the 60's and the home club of the great Sean O'Neill are now defunct and out of being. Similarly, Ballykinlar, a team who reached Down SFC finals in the 60's and won a few JFC titles in the 90's are now folded too. Again, the club of Paddy 'Mo' Doherty as well.

One of my earliest memories is being at the Down championship final between Newry Mitchels and Ballykinlar in 1963 (I think). Mitchels won 4-2 to 1-10. I met Paddy Doherty after the game and he was such a legend it was like meeting Santa Claus.
The decline of both clubs since then has been very sad to watch

Down final between Burren and Kilcoo, due to be played tomorrow and on TG4, may be postponed as Kilcoo have objected to the ref and have taken their objection to Croke Park.
The ref in question is one of our finest young referees; just another example of Kilcoo's gamesmanship.

On what basis are they demanding the change of referee? They have some arrogance to even suggest it.

Kilcoo have been great champions, but are letting themeslves down again. Paul Falloon is one of our best referees

More trouble at the Down senior hurling semi-final between Liatroim and Ballycran. But, apparently, 'it was the ref's fault.'
Blame the ref.....

Interesting referee choice for the senior final - thought my club comrade would have got it but Paul is very experienced and will be well fit to handle the environment.

The sledging about child abuse is particularly squalid; esp as it's a major concern for the GAA

Thought Kilcoo were v disciplined during the melee; shipping a few punches without striking back. Their own red card was utter stupidity tho, game was well over, and now will miss the final.
