GAA Discussion / NFL Top Scorer's so far
March 31, 2012, 03:35:30 PM

just seen on Twitter there Who is The NFL's top scorer??

Louth have darren Clarke 1-30 and O'flatherty leads Kildare with 0-24

who's top scorer for the other counties in the division?

Just wondering the top scorers in the NFL Overall

And within each division

I'll hazard a guess

Division 1 Dairmuid Connolly Dublin
Division 2 Darren Clarke Louth
Division 3 Paddy Cunningham Antrim
Division 4 Seamus Quigley Fermanagh

If you know your individual county's top scorer let me know

Darren Clarke is Louth's with 1-30

GAA Discussion / McDermott's recruitment

interesting article from hoganstand

Banner recruit four 'outsiders'

Clare football manager Michael McDermott
26 November 2010

Clare football boss Micheal McDermott has recruited four players from other counties under the GAA's parentage rule.

As a county which hasn't won a senior provincial football title in the last 10 years, Clare can avail of the rule and, according to The Irish Sun, this has led to him capturing the services of a former Meath goalkeeper, an ex-Cavan under 21, a Dublin club footballer and a Kildare man.

But Kilmacud Crokes captain Pat Burke, who has played for Dublin, and Na Fianna brothers Aidan and Brian Downes, have turned down a move to the Banner County.

"We have been hit with two of our starting 15 from the championship last year (Declan Callinan and Brian Carrig) gone away," he said.

"It is a big plus having these four new kids. From talking to them and seeing them in a few trials in October, they were very committed. They seem very enthusiastic about playing for Clare in 2011.

"They are the sort of characters we are looking for. Come January when we pulled everyone in for the McGrath Cup, we will have a closer look at the players there."

McDermott's native county of Cavan availed of the parentage rule this year by recruiting highly-rated St. Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh forward Gareth 'Nesty' Smith.

any idea of the 4 guys? Surely this 10 year rule would apply to majority of counties

Yorkshire born players make history
08 March 2010

History was made in O'Moores Park on Saturday night when Yorkshire born players, and first cousins Kevin Meaney (Laois captain wearing no 11) led his County out against Joe Feeney (Armagh no 10) in the Allianz Division 2 game. Both lads mothers Ann and Patricia (nee Toland) were born in Leeds, and were members of Young Irelands GAA club where they helped in fund raising and social events. Both lads learned their skills and football technique with the St Anthonys GAA underage club in Beeston Leeds, representing Yorkshire at U-16 level. Their parents returned to Ireland in 1994 with their children, Ann and Joe Meaney (Kilkenny) to Laois, while Patricia and Malachy (Armagh) to Madden.

The Gaels in Yorkshire wish both lads the best of luck in the future, and are proud of our early adventure in underage development. We also want to acknowledge the progress of Tyrone All Ireland winner Joe McMahon who was born in Yorkshire, and played for the county before winning 2 All Ireland medals for Tyrone. Joe's father Paddy played for Young Irelands in the 1970s before returning to Omagh with his York born wife and children. All three lads parents were present at Young Irelands 40th anniversary in 2008, and keep in regular contact with the clubs progress.

GAA Discussion / NFL DIV3
January 27, 2009, 01:18:17 PM
Quite a competitive Division consiting of:

Louth- O'byrne cup winners could be a false dawn
Down- alot of pressure on management to succeed
Cavan - new manager and good forwards could see them as div3 winners
Limerick - tough away draw for any team can they build on last years shampionship promise
Roscommon-FBD league runners up and under new man o'donnell could be dark horses
Offaly - new manager and lacking quality could cause a scalp here and there...
Longford - if they don't get their house in order glen ryan's debut season could be disatrous
Tipperary - favourite for the drop after suprise promotion last year

A bad start could be fatal

I predict cavan to win it outright with louth down and roscommon pushing them close
with offaly and tipp getting relegated

GAA Discussion / joe kernan...over-rated?
January 13, 2009, 12:12:59 PM
had a conversation well argument with a number of armagh lads over the weekend
it was in relation to joe kernan being a GREAT, and a LEGEND of a manager.

I thought he was a good manager and felt those words are over used these days the lads were furious!!

my argument was that he only won one all-ireland with armagh yeah sure enough you can say thats greatness alone how many have louth one recently blah blah blah
but i feel with the forwards he possessed, the best in ireland at the time he should have won more......and my fault with joe is
why was he so defensive when he had such a set of forwards

I know his feats at club level but this was more based on his ability at inter county level.

your views gentlemen please!

GAA Discussion / gillers new squad
November 12, 2008, 07:25:37 PM

from hoganstand
Dublin senior football manager Pat Gilroy
12 November 2008

Ciaran Whelan and Jason Sherlock are included in new Dublin football manager Pat Gilroy's provisional squad for 2009.

The inclusion of the veteran pair finally ends speculation that they were set to retire from the inter-county scene. The squad is dominated by players from county champions Kilmacud Crokes, beaten finalists St. Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh, St. Brigid's and reigning All-Ireland club champions St. Vincent's.

The Brogan brothers, Alan and Bernard, are joined by their cousin James, while younger brother Paul is also expected to feature once he has fully recovered from a cruicate ligament injury. Neither Brogan or St. Jude's defender Niall O'Shea were considered due to injury.

There's a recall for highly-rated St. Vincent's defender Ger Brennan, who dropped off the panel prior to this year's championship, while some of the newcomers include Sean Breheny, Alan Hubbard, Blaine Kelly and Thomas McGrath. Other players from Kilmacud Crokes will be considered once their involvement in the Leinster club championship ends.

Provisional Dublin football squad:
1 Paddy Andrews (St Brigid's)
2 Denis Bastick (Templeogue Synge St)
3 Kevin Bonner (St Brigid's)
4 Sean Breheny (St Jude's)
