Party whip or conscience

I don't believe you should leave your conscience at the door and accept the directive of the party whip to vote along party lines where core beliefs are at issue.
Where do we draw the line between accepting whip or voting per conscience ?

I would like them to follow the party on what was in their manifesto, anything else they should have their own view on. Be true to what they promised and be counted for what they stand for.
