Friend at work is off to Egypt this Wed and with all the shite going on is it a good idea to go? Thompson's haven't cancelled but the foreign office are advicing people not to go, she's staying in a resort so I'd imagine it's just getting to the hotel from the airport that would be the hassle side of things, she's staying in Sharm el-Sheikh
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

If she is flying into Sharm direct then she will be fine.

Alghero in sardinia is ok for a break.
its a bit like bray or dun laoghaire in the sun.

a working town. like a lot of italian places, not as polished as it once was due to less money in the economic downturn.
People I met who had been there before said it was a lot prettier a number of years ago.
still, it isnt bad.
the weather is generally good and the old town has a large number of good restaurants.
Pizzas are generally great. Pasta excellent. lots of fish/seafood on the menu as youd expect.
the only downside is that there seems to be mostly the same menu in all the restaurants.
Not as much variety as I'd like.
still a nice break away - food and drink are def cheaper than Dublin (though most places are!)

Anyone been to Argentina?
Looking at going maybe over Christmas.
What places would  be recommended.

interested in Buneos Aires, Iguassu falls  plus maybe any beach resort?

need recommendations for any other places to go/see.
Also for which area in BA to stay in (hear some are dodgy)
Decent hotels in all locations.

Would patagonia/chile/uraguay be any good to see?
not interested in brazil
are there any beach resorts in (northern) argentina?

suspect patagonia from descriptions is like the north sperrins of a winter!

TIA - all info appreciated

Mr Rois went to Patagonia before we met - I'll ask him for any tips on it and let you know.  He had to wear a Tyrone jersey and get a picture of himself at the "Fin del Mondo (sp)" sign there to win a competition.  He'll never forget how disgusting he felt apparently.

In my turn, going to Boston, New England, Nova Scotia and Quebec for a trip, starting on Sat.  We're OK with Boston, but has anyone got any tips for what to do in Quebec City and Montreal?  We have two nights in each.  Also Cape Cod - apart from driving around and maybe taking a ferry to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard, we have very little idea of what to go and visit - tips all very welcome.

Know next to nothing about Argentina but intend to spend a few months in S America next year.
I have always wanted to visit the Hurling Club in Buenos Aires having met a member years ago in San Francisco.
There was an article in the Irish News about this hotel owned by a Belfast man.  He may help you if you get onto him

The old town is great Rois (UNESCO site) and we did a guided walking tour which was really informative. A fair bit of connection with Ireland as well. Plymouth Rock is worth a visit on the Cape. Enjoy the trip

Great, thank you for that.  We're a short walk from the old town so I think a walking tour sounds great.

lynchbhoy, contrary to what you've been told, my fiance reckons Patagonia had some of the most spectacular scenery he's ever seen.

Hoping to book Thailand for 2 weeks in July. Would like to spend about 3 nights in Bangkok before heading out to one of the island resorts.

Anybody any advice on where to stay in Bangkok/which resort to go for etc?

Fcuk it, if you know anything worth knowing about Thailand, post it here.

Looking to do something similar next June, anyone here had this trip?

Are there any local travel agents that specialise in Thai holiday packages from Ireland ?

I'm heading to Thailand in just over a months time for 3 weeks.
We booked flights via www.travelpack.com £570 return
Flying Dublin – London - Kuala Lumpur – Bangkok
Returning Phuket – Kuala Lumpar – London – Dublin

The plan is; 2 nights in Bangkok, overnight train to Chiang Mai for 2 nights, flight to Phuket, few nights there, then on to Krabi, Railway etc, then Phi Phi Don then back to Phuket for the remainder.
I'll update when I get back. I don't think June is the best time to visit weather wise, I think the islands on the east should be best at that time

I was in Bangkok for 3 nights, 4 nights in Chiang Mai and then a week in Koh Samui.

Trailfinders did the lot.

Just a wally hanging out on Pattaya beach.
I'm gonna show you as gently as I can how much you don't know.

When was this?

I did 11 nights in Koh Samui, then 5 nights in Chiang Mau and 3 nights in Bangkok a few months ago. Wish I'd left Koh Samui to the end rather than finishing up in Bangkok

First 2 weeks of July.

Same as me. Went up to Chiang Rai as well while we were up in Chiang Mai.
