Clint Eastwood - Gran Torino.
Al Pacino - The Scent of a Woman. Awful film, awful script, but a great performance.
Robert DeNiro - Toss up between The Deer Hunter and Taxi Driver. He's a great actor.
Brando - Superman. Last Tango in Paris was overrated.
Jack Nicholson - The Shining
Daniel Day Lewis - Lincoln
Tom Hanks - Saving Private Ryan
Jimmy Stewart - He was the same character in so many, but I'd say Rear Window
Dustin Hoffman - Kramer v Kramer
Johnny Depp - Blow
Morgan Freeman - The Shawshank Redemption
Anthony Hopkins - Amistad
Leonardo DiCaprio - The Aviator
Russell Crowe - A Beautiful Mind
Kirk Douglas - Spartacus
Michael Douglas - Wall Street
Gene Hackman - Hoosiers
Christopher Walken - The Deer Hunter
Alec Guinness - The Ladykillers
Richard Burton - Where Eagles Dare

Disclaimer: There's a lot of films I haven't seen so I'm open to changing my mind on some of these.

He was a nasty, horrible, venomous little shit of a man long before Brighton.

So crippling his wife was fair game?

Um, no. Did anyone suggest that?  My point is that he was a plonker before Brighton and he's a plonker still. Brighton did not turn him into a hateful turd, he was a hateful turd to begin with.

On twitter the only strong supporters of this move are the GAA hierarchy and Intercounty players/former Intercounty players.

.. And the GAA grassroots outside of Ireland.

Ah sure were all the one lads, and f**king bending over backwards to the queen of England again

So when they receive our boy for a visit, that's us bending over backwards for them?  FFS some of yiz are great ones for being able to paint every situation as us being the victim.

It's a state visit between friendly neighbouring countries. It's diplomacy. It's part of the process of modern governance and maintaining good international relations. 100 years ago European countries weren't so good at being good neighbours. Frankly I prefer today's approach over the way they did things back then. If it wasn't for living in a time of diplomacy and good relations you'd be getting called up the the army to throw your life away at the government's behest, so cut your whinging.

So would you not be allowed to wear the UUJ Gaelic football top then?

At my university people walked around in sweatshirts with the name of their club on the back.  I don't know what the setup is at UUJ but would they have to allow all athletes representing the college to wear that kind of sweatshirt, all except the footballers?

I want to see coverage of the look on Willie Frazer's face when he sees the tricolours at Windsor Castle.

if you would pay  Eur40 pm just to view Sky eventism and style of popular punditry and consider it money well spent, then I'd file that viewpoint as lacking seriousness :)

My personal preferences are irrelevant. It's what the market says that counts.

Given that gaa is a new sport to the British audience it's a hardly a surprise that in the first season it's on ss3. If it goes well it could end up moving over in future years.

I'm looking forward to seeing their build up to the all Ireland finals. Rte have one show on the sat night full of music. It'll be nice to see the build up on sky sports news and preview shows during the week. The finals could be turned into big event with a decent international audience relatively quickly.

+1. And there'll be none of this "puke football" and "tell your children to play tennis instead" rubbish from their pundits.

Well this suddenly became topical, didn't it?

Love it or hate it, this is GAA country. No sporting body comes close to creating such pride or such fury. The banks ruined the country and we took it all calmly. A relatively straightforward business decision by the GAA this week? Pandemonium. It made me wonder again if the GAA world is divided in two – those who give so much and then those who bellyache about someone getting rich through the GAA and want to know 'where's mine'? This was a big week for the bellyache brigade and the vested interests crying crocodile tears for the old people, the children, the community and the poor dead patriots.

how is this promoting the game as best we can where it matters most - here in Ireland?

Citation needed.

QuoteI am dubious about the over seas promotion ... what will always be a miniscule international dimension.

It will always be miniscule if the GAA top brass ever listen to defeatist and ill-informed statements like this.
