Another semi-final appearance for Derry, players and management have given us 2 great years to date. I've no doubt we'll give Kerry their fill of it.
Kerry were ruthless on Sat & Derry a bit off so the immediate feeling yesterday was it'll be a very tough day. Shane had a very rare off day (couple of folk mentioned he wasn't 100%), yesterday but the other 5 forwards all chipped in with scores that got us over the line. Murray banked a good 20 mins which was good to see.
The spine of the team need the games of their lives, really looking forward to it.

During Lockdown, dinners became a big part of the day with everyone in the house. Really got motoring with the slow cooker and air fryer. Air fryer used daily these days, quicker and uses for less electricity than the oven

Slow cooker, every Sunday now the silverside, topside, pork loin goes in about 8am on a medium setting. Have experimented with Cola, Football special etc, add in some paprika, piri piri, Chipotle etc. Serious reward for little effort. Much like a bbq, the man will get the plaudits for 5 mins work while the wife does the heavy lifting!

GAA Discussion / The Advanced Mark rule
February 11, 2022, 12:59:43 PM
Don't actually think I've spoken to anyone who is keen on this rule. For me it changes the game too much. Free flowing game, ball goes in, mark is called, entire game stops. I'm interested to see what the percentages are like for 'for' and 'against' and if anyone is happy with the rule, why?

Definitely not wanting to pollute the board with another Covid thread. Just a quick Yes or No with what we now know. DO NOT reply, keep the Covid chat to the existing threads. Anyone replying, Fear Bun Na Sceilpe will be knocking on your door :)

General discussion / The Best Burger?
November 20, 2018, 09:17:51 PM
Hard to beat a decent burger. In Out / 5 guys pretty good. I wouldn't thank you for a McDonald's though I'd take a Burger King. I've had a very swanky one out of Gordon Ramseys Burgr joints, far far too convoluted. Most chippers, well in this part of the world all buy from the same supplier so, well all taste the same!

There's a place in Derry, Pyke n Pommes (permanent street food stall) that does the best I've had. Unreal. I'm in Dublin in a couple of weeks and have been recommended Bunsen for a tasty bite

General discussion / Gas or Oil
January 17, 2018, 12:23:08 PM
Our area can now avail of Firmus gas. Have heard it's a good bit cheaper to heat the home / water with gas than oil. Anyone switch from oil to gas? thanks

GAA Discussion / Marty Clarke hangs up the boots
March 02, 2017, 10:45:30 AM
An absolutely brilliant footballer, sad to hear.

Former Down playmaker Marty Clarke has called time on his playing career at the age of 29.

The An Riocht man informed his club mates of the decision last week after having spoken with a consultant in the weeks after Queen's University's Sigerson Cup defeat to DCU last month.

An outstanding underage prospect, Clarke had two separate spells with AFL giants Collingwood and backboned Down's run to the 2010 All-Ireland final against Cork after returning home from his first stint.

He returned home from Australia for the second time in November 2014, just months after being diagnosed with an extremely rare case of Addison's disease.

Speaking in today's Irish News about his decision to retire, Clarke stated: "I made the decision because of the stress it's putting me under.

"The dynamic nature of Gaelic where you're running, you're jumping, I was putting my body under a lot of stress.

"I just felt completely zapped from the start of the game to the finish. When I got home it was taking me longer and longer to recover.

"I went and got a bit of advice from the consultant and he recommended I stop competitive sport."

"It probably hasn't sunk in totally but I know in my heart, the way I was feeling after a lot of football games for club and Queens, that it's not safe and I'm not doing myself justice probably

"The Kingdom have been first class and it was pretty emotional telling the fellas."

General discussion / Donating blood / training
October 28, 2015, 11:47:10 AM
I'll be donating blood in a couple of weeks. Anyone any experience on how long you should wait before hitting the gym again, spin class, intense circuits? Have read varying reports online, some ranging from a day to a few weeks. Wouldn't fancy fainting in front of a class tbh!

Has a new rule been passed that a player has to be 18 to play senior football next year? If not,  has the current rule changed for next season at all?  Have been hearing various bits and bobs in recent weeks.

General discussion / Phone / tech bans in the house
January 07, 2015, 03:49:58 PM
We started a new phone / tech policy in the house last night. All phones, gadgets or whatever are left in a basket in the kitchen at 10pm until the morning. Its mostly for our eldest young teenager's benefit, who is spending way too much time on hers and is finding it hard to concentrate on studies etc. Good for me also as I was watching too many shows and not getting enough sleep

any of you do anything similar? Any tips re phone etiquette and children?

cheers
