GAA Discussion / Re: The next 10 all Irelands
« on: Today at 02:28:55 PM »

This year, the championship was a little bit dull in the provincials, but the best four teams made the semis and you had two superbly entertaining games. The interesting thing is that both semi finals ended in draws, and in any other year that would have meant replays, and favourites almost always win replays. Extra time is a completely different animal where momentum and/or one moment of magic is more important.

Dull yes but the game of the championship was a provincial game between Monaghan and Armagh.

Having watched it back a 2nd time Mayo v Dublin was more intriguing than entertaining, the amount of basic errors by two top 4 teams was striking. Dublin known for their strength and conditioning looked way off it especially in extra time and were making mistakes I haven't seen from them since pre Gavin days. There is no doubt the two semi finals going to extra time instead of a replay was a help to Tyrone and Mayo.

Next year the plan is to have the county season finished by July so remains to be seen how much time in the calendar will allow for replays?

I am hoping for a return to the 2017 format. The new proposals are awful.
I'd hope so too but there is a clear push by HQ to get one of the new proposals in place and the Congress was pushed back with that in mind.

ROI weekly update. Another decent week

9245 cases (638 fewer cases than last week)
278 in hospital (37 fewer than a week ago)
63 in ICU  (4 more than last Sunday)
I've been watching the stats lately wondering why NI was having regular reports of daily single figure deaths and there were none from ROI, has it just been a case of them not being widely reported? I downloaded the ROI Covid tracker app to get the EU digi Vaccine Certificate & it gives you the death stats on it - 24 deaths last week.

They stopped reporting daily death stats here since the hack. A random day is chosen now for weekly reported deaths and some of them are from this month or a few months ago.

Lingard makes up for his error v Young Boys and DeGea with a rare penalty save for a hard earned and fully deserved win.

Lads if City or Liverpool went down to 10 against that team they’d have at the very least got a draw or pushed on and won. Not ruthless enough.

Should have managed the game a lot better both on and off the field and would have got at least a draw but for that error deep into injury time.

In May I watched Man City with 10 men lose to Brighton, Chelsea lost 5-2 at home West Brom in April.

Bad loss and could prove to be a very costly one at that. United was on course for win and likely a comfortable win then came the turning point and Wan Bissaka can have no complaints about the red. With 10 men for a hour United could and should have earned a point though what Lingard was at in the 5th minute of injury time only he knows.

Brolly best ignored. It seems like every text he receives is perfectly appropriate for that situation. What about the hundreds of texts and whatnot he gets that are wide of the mark. A great man for hindsight is Joe.
Absolutely. He's a desperate attention seeker. Was finally kicked off RTE for a good reason.

Downfall in AI finals for Mayo under Horan was conceding goals.

2012 v Donegal 2-11 to 0-13 (13 scores each)
2013 v Dublin 2-12 to 1-14 (14 scores v 15)
2020 v Dublin 2-14 to 0-15 (16 scores v 15)

If Tyrone are to win the final i feel they'll have to score at least 2 goals, easier said that done especially if Mayo defend as well as they did against Dublin.

Same downfall for Mayo under Horan in AI final and Tyrone got both goals easier than expected.

Well done Tyrone enjoy the celebrations.

Decent return for Ronaldo, a comfortable win and 2 goals. Bruno made sure he wasn't to be overshadowed by his Portuguese team mate by scoring the goal of the game.

Oisin Mullen starting instead Enda Hession no real surprise there. Any late change for Tyrone?

Even though it's 20 years on and I've seen a load of these programmes I still found parts of it very hard to watch, especially anything involving the firefighters as we now know what they were walking into. That and the noise as the "jumpers" hit the building.

My cousin got married in New Jersey on September 9th. In attendance was 5 firefighters that was friends of the groom. All died two days later in the world trade center and their families didn't even have their bodies to bury.

I went back to last year at same time 921 cases , 11 times as many cases with 90% vaccinated.

If we had the current more transmissible variant last year we'd have a lot more sick people in hospital and a lot more deaths than we currently do due to no vacancies.

in ICU 59 ( 1 fewer than last Sunday)
