Parish rule exists in Bredagh and Carryduff,no different to anywhere else in down. Rightfully so,otherwise one of the two would mop up all the underage talent, which considering the size of both clubs would be ridiculous.

Turlough o'brien maybe played a small role in their promotion?

I would say up until the flag protests that the question of the future of 'northern ireland' had been largely settled. The young people/millennials had no interest in the petty squabbling which passes for politics here. Stormont, while not ideal, seemed to be working.
In the background I'm convinced the DUP were acutely award of the changing demographics which included the catholic population becoming the majority. In order to prevent this becoming a nationalist/republican majority, they had to make Northern Ireland a working entity, where Catholics didn't mind living and felt appreciated. Peter Robinson seemed to be doing this, with gestures of going to pairc esler, and his friendship with MMG.and it was working.all sorts of polls were showing that people were identifying themselves as northern Irish, and large percentages of Catholics would vote to maintain status quo etc. I honestly believe if this course had been continued, the constitutional question would have faded.
For some reason tho the DUP did an about turn. The flag protests were a disaster.all of a sudden a generation of Catholics that had no memory of the troubles,or drumcree even, were made to think maybe Northern Ireland can't work.things have got rapidly worse since then.
Without mapping out everything that has led to where we are now,I believe the DUP have been incapable of allowing Northern Ireland to become a place where irishness is viewed as equal to Britishness.every attempt to do this has been dressed up as a concession, when it's only what the DUP should have been doing to secure the union.when you add in their position on brexit,I honestly can't think of anything more they could have done to bring about an end to the union they profess to maintain.

Could not agree more.seen it far too many times were a team gets penalised when the advantage is actually theirs.

There's two versions of what happened that night.one is consensual sex between three people, the other is the rape of a young woman by two men. I personally don't know what happened that night,so I won't make a judgement until all the facts are presented. What I don't understand is how those, such as syferus, are so sure they are guilty? The text messages mean nothing, indicate no guilt whatsoever.
I hope they serve real time if they are guilty. But what happens if they are found not guilty? You'll have people condemning them as rapists who got away with it. Does that mean if you get accused of rape you're automatically a rapist?let the courts do their job for Christ sake.

The CPA won't need to organise a strike or a boycott, for people are fed up and are voting with their feet. I honestly think intercounty football is dying a slow death already. Dublin will walk leinster, kerry the same in Munster. Mayo might get caught in Connaught but will be the only team from that province capable of doing anything at the business end of the season. And Ulster is a toss between Donegal and Tyrone, neither capable of breaking into the top 3. Going to watch the county used to be enjoyable, that seems like a long time ago.

Come again?you've picked me up wrong there I think.i don't understand how you've come to your conclusion from what i've said.in answer to your question tho,no.i genuinely don't believe he did make the video in the spirit you think.it would be so unbelievably bad,I can't think of a word strong enough to say how stupid it would be.i don't think i've ever met anyone who would find it funny if it were intended as you think.
For the record I don't think all Protestant/unionist people are bigots and nationalist/catholic people are not.truly.

The last week has underlined for me how far gone politics in the north is. Maybe i'm missing something here, but there is no way McElduff meant that in the way he has been accused of.not a single doubt in my mind.not a shinnerbot, not a Sinn Fein voter but I do follow politics. I don't find McElduff entertaining, more cringeworthy.but he's been hung out to dry here.
It's understandable the DUP jumping on this bandwagon, with the amount of similar blunders they have made, they must have thought their prayers had been answered.even possibly the UUP to a lesser extent. I was disappointed however with the SDLP and their response to the situation. I'm presuming some, the likes of Mccrossan, would know McElduff well enough through work to know he wouldn't have meant the video to be offensive.yet they chose political point scoring as their priority, and along with the other parties, are the people I would hold responsible for this horrible attrocity being dragged back up and causing fresh grief for the relatives.

Totally agree, not a chance he meant it.even those claiming he did probably know this.

I just can't believe he deliberately meant to cause offence to anyone.if he did it would be a monumental error.his brand of humour is,for want of a better word, terrible.but harmless enough.i honestly believe it was a genuine mistake, and would be disappointed with the unionist politicians, aswell as some in the sdlp, who immediately jumped on this as a political point scoring opportunity.the kind of behaviour you'd expect off Bryson, not those who should know better.

You're the one who brought up omagh. No one said it was the ruc that did it,or suggested it. The point was that possibly dissident bomb threats might be concocted.not all of them, but possibly some in order to inconvenience those in nationalist areas in order to thwart support for dissidents. Are you telling me that is not a possibility? You yourself have stated before it was a dirty war, with the battle for hearts and minds a huge part of that war.no need for the shite at the end of your post either,it's a discussion.
