Not sure if this answers the question. But have heard a few things from some in the know on how this is done, and like anything, it varies from what the top successful counties do, to what the others do (although I'm sure there's a lot of nuance in that, just generally speaking). The top counties absolutely analyse what happened, what went wrong, what went right, what they need to work on, and generally give a plan for what to work on through the down time until players come back for whenever pre-season training starts. The lower ones don't seem to. The players break up pretty much immediately after they lose their last match (bar some pints), go back to clubs, go on holidays, and generally take time off. When back to pre-season, they're already far behind the other counties before they even set foot on the pitch for the first time that season. The top county players have been working away, getting data from S&C and on what to do, and it does not take them long to get up to speed when back with the rest of the squad. Seems to be what is happening. Some are closing the gap this way (your counties outside of those challenging for titles every year), both otherwise it seems the gap widens from top to bottom this way.

When mayo lost to newbridge or no where a few of them like Diarmaid o connor and conor loftus  were in Chicago before midnight as i think it was the last day for registrations.
