Looking for a football club in Galway

My London stint has come to an end, so yours truly, defying all the AIB ads that say a club is for life, is scrounging around for a temporary home once more. I'm now living in Galway, for the next six months anyway, in Terryland, north of the city. I don't know what the club story is around there - anyone know of a club where a man could kick ball and do a bit of training for the summer?

Basically, what I'd be looking for would be ....

(1) Training at least twice a week to a decent standard
(2) A club that wouldn't get het up if I'm never free on Sundays. With in running betting the way it is, I'll do well to get four or five Sundays off this calendar year - so ideally it would be a club where either they wouldn't care if I wasn't around for matches, or else tended to play games in the morning or on Weekday evenings.
(3) A club that tolerates utterly, utterly useless dogsbodies. Junior A is the height of my potential, never mind usual standard.

Any ideas?

Will try to tap you up before the hated enemy Corofin boys get on to me, Terryland is near enough to Salthill, they have a decent enough Junior A team, its usually fairly good at the start of the year before the senior team takes all the promising players.

Other city clubs would be St Michaels, used to be poor but won the Minor championship a few years back so I presume loads of good young players (I detest marking a good young lad, they run too much)

Otherwise St James is the other city club.

Further out on the outskirts of the city, you would have Claregalway, Moycullen, Oranmore, Bearna, Annaghdown etc

However the traffic in Galway these days is horrendous so stick with a city team.

My vote would be Salthill, good social scene to boot and it will please your paymasters as you will get any scandal coming from the Mulholland chain

Does Mervue not still exist? they were handy underage back in my day. We (Ferbane-Belmont) beat them in an All Ireland Minor Club Final. They beat Nemo Rangers in the Semi.

St James' is the club that covers Mervue/Renmore part of the city.

Thinks St James is an amalgamation of Renmore and Mervue. Mervue were always good underage but most of them eventually decide to stick with soccer or drugs

I was hoping you'd say they'd have a woeful junior A team that I wouldn't drag the standard down of, but it might be worth a look all the same.

Incidentally, I remember from playing in Dublin that games could be any time - weekday evenings, 10.30 am, basically anything. Does that happen in Galway as well? I don't want to go joining a club that needs the numbers, only to find that I'm available to play in two games all year, sunday afternoons being a non runner.

Cheers for the rundown though.

Lone Shark I'd say St Michaels are probably the nearest club to you. They cover the Newcastle/Westside areas of the city.

Failing that you could try Salthill or Barna on the west side of the city.
