General discussion / Ticket sellers....
May 09, 2024, 08:23:59 PM
Does anyone else think its getting ridiculous? We've had our 3rd knock at the door in a week. 5th in a few months. It feels like every club in the country is selling £20 tickets for a raffle at the minute.

Do people buy every ticket that comes to the door? Do they hide under the stairs?

Ticket sellers on here... what's the success rate like?

General discussion / Accountants!
August 10, 2023, 09:04:16 PM
Any accountants here? In particular ones with experience in cross border tax returns? Have a quesiton...

I understand that tax paid to Revenue is used to offset tax paid to HMRC as part of self assessment. What I can't figure out however is which of the following is true...

A) The amount of tax paid to Revenue is deducted from declared southern income in your HMRC self assessment, in the same way that expenses would be. For example, 5k euro tax paid at source on 20k euro of income.. So in this case, you would have to pay UK tax on 15k euro earnings.
B) The amount of tax paid to Revenue is deducted from your final UK HMRC self assessment bill.

Obviously, scenario B is much better, but the guidance seems vague and I can't figure out which of the above statements is true. Basically I need to know if tax paid to Irish Revenue is considered an "expense" or is it taken off your final HMRC tax bill? Can anyone shed any light?

General discussion / Northern GP crisis
December 02, 2022, 09:48:55 AM
I see another GP surgery in the north has handed in its contract. It will close unless a replacement GP can be found. That brings the total number of surgeries to at least 6 by my count in the last few months (Flax, Glen road, 2 in Ballymena, Trillick, Shantallow, there may be more im forgetting), with tens of thousands of people affected. This will then of course have a knock on effect for the surrounding surgeries who will have to take on these patients, compounding their own problems and stretching their resources.

My understanding is that its not a nice environment to work in. Growing waiting lists in the hospitals has led to people being managed by their GPs for years when they really should be under a consultant. This leads to a huge workload for the surgery and less time to deal with the day to day traditional GP stuff, leading to people being frustrated/angry and GPs getting fed up.

I cant remember the exact stat but a large percentage of GPs are over the age of 55. More and more young doctors choose to go into hospital instead. This is a ticking time bomb as GPs tend to retire before 65.
What do people think is the solution to this crisis? Do we have a recruitment problem?

Can't see this being a repeat of the league. Tyrone have come on leaps and bounds since then.

Important to get a feel for both jurisdictions as ultimately both have to pass individually as per the GFA.

General discussion / Legal eagle help needed!
March 18, 2021, 06:31:49 PM
Hi folks, have a legal query.

I was priced £640 for a new toilet by a plumbing firm. They initially offered a repair for what was I think 350 but that they couldn't stand over it and it would likely leak again. Didn't go with them for obvious reasons, ended up getting a repair done for £120 elsewhere.
I've never left a bad Google review in my life, but this crowd really annoyed me to the point where I put up a review simply stating what they were charging and what I paid elsewhere for a repair (no replacement required), and for people to price around.

In response they sent someone to the house today to tell my home alone pregnant wife that they were starting legal action, and were asking to see a receipt for the work that was done.
In addition to this, they sent me a long winded text message saying they would start legal proceedings if I did not take it down, as well as insinuating I was put up to it by a rival plumber,  which is obviously nonsense.

Am I obligated to show them any receipts if I've mentioned it in a Google review?
Is this a bluff?
Nothing I stated was false, except maybe that I didn't clarify the 120 i paid elsewhere was a repair and not a replacement, but I would be willing to clarify that in the post. Its still a ridiculous price for a bog.

Any solicitors able to clarify where I stand?

Thanks.

General discussion / Any solicitors??
December 09, 2020, 03:56:50 PM
Hi folks, any solicitors in the forum or anyone legal minded able to offer advice?

My wedding reception was unable to happen last month because of restrictions in the north. One of the vendors, who supply lights, backdrop etc, are not playing ball with the refund, they say they will only refund 50% of the total £1300 as a "gesture of good will". They say the other 50% covers "admin costs associated with initial booking".

Have I a case here for the small claims court? Consumer council informed me that when theres a government act that prohibits weddings that I am entitled to everything back, bar any unavoidable costs on their end (eg having to preorder food). I dont feel they have had to do anything like this.

Can anyone offer advice?

Thanks

I don't know much about this festival, but alot of people are not impressed. Is it a big issue?

I just don't get it. I really don't. Why is this show so popular?

Kerry 8/11
Draw 15/2
Tyrone 6/4

Another all Ireland semi against the Kingdom. Memories of 03 and 15 come to mind. Really hard to call this one. Feels like a huge game for Tyrone. Win and they will silence the critics who say they haven't beaten a top class team when it matters.

Couldn't find a minors thread so I'll share it here. We've officially entered the twilight zone. A crowdfunder for a minor team.
