Messages - ONeill

#22651
Canavan's column in the Mirror is almost a must-read whenever Tyrone are on the menu. Today he made some incisive points regarding Saturday's game - sometimes it's what he doesn't say that speaks volumes:

In summary:

1 - Going by the first 20 mins, the supporters' over-confidence of beating Meath seemed to have rubbed off on the players.
2 - Tyrone either underestimated Meath or paid them too much respect
3 - Very disheartening to see Tyrone not as fired up as they should have been, showing less hunger than Meath, esp after '96.
4 - More than 11 player played below their full potential
5 - Tyrone finally nailed the Meath attack with 15 mins left but poor decision making cost them as well as erratic shooting
6 - Dooher's leadership was badly missed towards the end. His presence would have ensured no-one panicked and not went for goals.
7 - To win Sam again, Tyrone need all the injured men fit and Mickey Harte at the helm.

He writes about Meath too but the spuds are ready.

Mark Lynch is a lad who hasn't blossomed at senior level as his underage form suggested he would. Still young I suppose. That might be because he seemed bigger in terms of height and weight at that age compared to others. Watched him at close quarters v Antrim and he still appears to be unsure as to his role, though perhaps that reflects more on Crozier. Where did he play v Laois?

That'd be some shock alright - the supposed top 3 in Ulster losing their managers!

Is Mickey the longest-serving manager in Ulster?

Decommissioned the last warship when it was clear Kernan's men were not a threat anymore. So not me. I'm East of the lough now.

What Peter the Great was doing behind it we'll never know.

I'm sure oul Coleman's upstairs winding up a few Jackeens. He'd love another crack at them. The spirit of '93 should stand to Derry.

Horrendous memories. Didn't Sligo, Meath and Tyrone play on the one bill that day too.....think I've unearthed something here.

Hardy, I think I know which buck you are on about. He looked like an east end gangster to such an extent that my pal elbowed me in the ribs to cop a look at the state of him. He also told us to slow down when we were walking a bit too briskly back to our seats for his liking. If I wasn't totally preoccupied with the game there may have been harsh words. >:(

In all seriousness, there's nothing worse than brisk walkers, especially with pint glasses of water lying all over the joint in the premium.

There's a lot more to this article than meets the eye of a few on here, but I'm reluctant to discuss it fully on this board. I'll just say that there is a sizable group of Tyroneites who'll never recognise Mickey's legend no matter what he achieves. And I'm talking about well-educated football men, mostly of a generation similar to his. It seems to be a long-running issue, maybe dating back a couple of decades. I know a Tyrone fanatic and world-renowned scientist whose venom towards Harte shocks me. Some of their reasons don't add up - i.e. He has touched lucky, the players are winning despite him, the Tally and Canavan fall-outs speak volumes.....i think this is what the article above is loosely addressing. Outside of the county, I'm sure it beggars believe. Mickey's single-mindedness rubs some up the wrong way.

Just to make it clear, I'm a Harte fan and he's been our greatest manager at all levels. I'll question some of his decisions OK but sure that's what it's all about.

Exactly. I've been telling Tony that for years. It's like Sammy Wilson complaining about an article in An Phoblacht.

Come on Doire!

Cheers Zig... I know it must be hard... it certainly was for me going to watch youse a couple of years ago!

Difficult to say, but we are Ulster people. I'll be backing Derry and Monaghan now for Sam.

Ziggy et al., you should be ashamed of yourselves, win a couple of Sams and we are going soft. You can be damn sure no one on the other side of the Sperrins was doing anything other than cheering on Meath  last Saturday. Let's not get too carried way and let the anti-Ulster chip on the shoulder of Spillane and co. rob us of our true nature.

Come on the DUBS!!

Phew, needed that bit of therapy. Boom Boom Boom, everyone say Jayo....

I seem to be still registered in the oul one (last years), alongside a rake of others from the board.
