General discussion / Moss Keane RIP
October 05, 2010, 08:35:35 PM
Maybe I've gone blind but I'm surprised a thread has  not already been started. Sigerson Cup Medalist, Kerry Underage Player, 50 plus Rugby Caps, Lion Tourist and member of THAT team that beat the All Blacks. Most importantly though a real throw back to the best of the amateur days and a  number of people who would have known him through work described him  as  a totally unassuming but very amusing character. Will always remember those surging runs out of the rucks in an Irish jersey in the 1980's ball under arm.

His Biography which he worked on with Billy Keane, "Rucks Mauls and Gaelic Football" is a great read.

Rest in Peace Mossy

General discussion / 6 County Breaks
July 20, 2010, 09:47:48 PM
It's been way too long since I've had a few days break in the six counties so intend to put that right in early August. Any help/suggestions/ advice appreciated. Three or four nights travalling from deep south, adults and a few early teens in tow. My few thoughts at this stage are South Down/Mournes/Carlingford or else head a bit further up to the Glens. Probably looking at self catering accommodation but if there are good hotel deals going more than willing to look at that.

Any help at all appreciated

General discussion / new rolling stones single

heard it for the first time tonight. stewart clarke of hot press described it as their best single in 30 plus years and then expains that it was recorded in 1972 and didn't make the cut for Exile on Main Street, a double album no less. Shows what a great band they were then, now micko and the lads are their own tribut band, and have been for 35 years.

Good to see him finally come clean  on a few things in his Sunday Times interview today. Really the bit that summarises the whole sad affair lies in two sentences........

What he said......................."A manager has a lot on his plate. I realise that now I am a manager."

What he meant..............................."Having spent the past number of years proving myself to be a decidedly below average manager I now admit I was totally wrong in my disgraceful treatment of Mick McCarthy in Saipan in 2002. I could stretch the apology to cover a few more incidents but lets take that for starters. I offer my unreserved apologies to Mr. McCarthy, my panel members at the time and the Irish Soccer public, particularly those who shelled good money to travel to the far end of the world to follow the event"

Nice to finally have closure on this one

Not being picky, but was I the only one to pick up Cannings comment just before the throw in that there is normally a ............."Huge amount of Hyper Bowl (I don't think I'm joking here) surrounding these fixtures". I then did my usual trick of turning down Canning and co and turning up Micheal so there may have been more classics............Now I've come to accept blokes commentating on GAH on RTE who might be a bit limited in their appreciation of the finer points of the code, but you usually expect them to have a fairly basic grip of d'oul English.
