2-0 in the return leg will do it. They managed 4-0 against Barcelona a couple of years ago.

With a top class defense, the likes of Mane on form, and a packed Anfield.

This tie is over. I can see Real winning 3-1 or 4-2 at Anfield. The defensive issues really become clear at this level.

Real Madrid have their own defensive issues with Ramos out injured and Varane testing positive for covid. Real Madrid could well rue not winning by more tonight while Liverpool are well capable of winning the 2nd leg in Anfield 2-0.

Thought Liverpool were awful last night, especially defensively, but they were absolutely rode by the ref at times. Still don't see how the Vasquez one isn't a foul and red card. If that's not what VAR can be used for then what is? So blatantly obvious and cynical.

The tie's over. That defence needs protection from midfield and the supply lines cut out and there was none of that last night.  Giving Madrid time on the ball to pick out passes was always going to leave us badly exposed at the back.  I can't remember one single tackle in the middle of the pitch. To make a tackle you have to get near your opponent.  Trent is a major weak link in the defence at the moment, with Gomez out.  Teams are constantly targeting Liverpool down that side, rather than Robertson.  I don't think Trent has got any worse defensively, it's just now he doesn't have Gomez to get him out of jail.  Trent is a brilliant passer of the ball and has one of the best deliveries around, but he's not an instinctive defender. It's not really surprising that Southgate didn't pick him - maybe he just wants his right back to be able to defend first and foremost.
That's just, like your opinion man.

I can see a case for Liverpool going out and signing a RB in the summer with a view to moving TAA into midfield when Henderson reduces his playing time. He obviously has the passing and shooting ability but he is comfortable coming infield as well. Could be an interesting move for all parties.

As for yesterday it was poor form Liverpool's perspective. Mane played as badly as I have ever seen him although the entire teams passing was pretty poor. I actually think Firmino would have been a better option than Jota given the lack of space around the box. Tie is not over but it is hard to see Liverpool keeping a clean sheet so scoring 3 at a minimum is a big ask.

In the moments when Liverpool were in the opposition half at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, Trent Alexander-Arnold found himself in central midfield trying to pick passes around an impenetrable wall of white.

There is still the potential for one of England's finest talents to end up further advanced, like his hero Steven Gerrard. At 22, he has the ability to set the pace of games. His crossing is as good as any winger in the Premier League, with his delivery at the Emirates Stadium last weekend a case in point.

It is his defending that saw him dropped from the England squad and why Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Reece James are now ahead of him in Gareth Southgate's pecking order.
The two sides of Alexander-Arnold's game were perfectly illustrated in the two halves on Real's training ground. As poor as his defending was, his attacking in the second half was sublime.

It was no surprise that he started the move that saw Mohamed Salah score a vital away goal to take back to Anfield next week. He then hit a volley to set up a chance for Diogo Jota, executed with perfect pace and flight. It was difficult to see another full-back in Europe pulling off such a pass.

Perhaps he needs to be in midfield, dictating the play rather than having one eye on the opposition forwards. Philipp Lahm did it later in his career when Pep Guardiola realised the football brain his left-back possessed. Most have seen by now that Alexander-Arnold can play in a more advanced position. Jurgen Klopp could have the next Gareth Bale, circa 2012, on his hands.

Why? They should have gone back earlier in terms of years, but Bale started out at Southampton and Spurs as an attacking, creative left back who was also fairly handy at frees.

He has a lot of development to do before he would be fit to lace the boots of Gareth Bale.

Trent is around the age Bale was when he was moved out of leftback and made his mark at Champions League level.

Which was the writer's point.

GetOverTheBar

Bale had the pace of a World Class athlete.

Trent does not. Although he's probably a better "player".

Not a word of any of this when he was the best RB in the world the last few years. Sensationalism.
