Mcilroy is not good enough to win majors anymore but people talk like he's a prime Tiger

Slightest pressure and he folds just like today

Cam Smith was unreal, fully deserved, played the best all week

He's been in the top four in all majors this year, and still the best Irish player we've ever produced. It's hard for you to accept but when you wise up you'll understand

Rory has been around quite a while now, but just look at how many have come and gone while Rory is still up there? Dustin, Brooks, De Chambow have hd spells at the top but all fade while Rory is still up there.

Guessing most of the McIlroy hate is because he identifies as northern irish or whatever...sad really

I'm bothered, same way I want, Hartington, Lowry and Eamonn Darcy to do well.
Not so much Mc Dowell tbf.

And c'mon the Maguire sisters too

I think that's the point yet he still only has as many majors as someone like Koepka. Rory did nothing wrong today but he didn't do much right either and apart from his 80 back in 2010 today was his worst competitive round at St Andrews and the conditions were perfect. He should have about double the majors with his talent but he is in good company. Look at seve and all his natural ability and he won 5 instead of over 10 and plenty of other top players with none or just one

Will it ever end

He played bogey free, hit every green in regulation, his longest par putt couldn't have been anymore than 3 feet, he ran into a burner of a putter in Smith today.

Yesterday, it seemed like Hovland and McIlroy were driving each other on. Today Smith and Young were driving each other on.
McIlroy did nothing wrong today, Smith's touch around the green was unreal at times.
I don't think that was coincidence.

It was a course and conditions where you needed to be cleverly agressive rather than trying to be cleverly defensive (which is often the case in majors). Hence why Rory and Vic had the better 3rd round and the two Cams had better 4th rounds.

Hard to be overly critical of Rory given he had no bogeys. Cam was just too good. The two-putt par on the 17th was class in a high pressure situation

Anyways .............. according to Jamie Weir - it sounds like our new Open champion is off to follow Greg Norman and the LIV lads along with fellow Aussies Adam Scott and Marc Leishman.

And Henrik Stenson who will be getting stripped of his Ryder Cup captaincy.

Stenson news is mad. When was he last competitive? I presume he didn't expect the Euro tour to act so quickly and decisively. Delighted they did.

Cam was clearly not ruling it out in his after match interview.

Someone like Smith going will really hurt the PGA Tour
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come
