Mickelson wins it at 50 years old but yeah let's make it all about Mcilroy.

Mickelson didn't win any majors until his mid 30s and older. So time for Rory yet. I wonder how many Mickelson would have won if Tiger wasn't around. I love watching him, he's a proper entertainer, not the typical robot that is on the tour now.

I always like seeing the winner's bird offer congratulations for the big pay cheque. Where was Big Phil's bird. Also haven't heard Phil's nickname for a while FMIG).

Summary, 150 golfers teed up on Thursday, 149 golfers choked and 1 golfer didn't.

Mickelson was ranked 115th before the tournament started, he's now up to 32nd, and $2million richer.

He has 11 second place finishes, which, in itself, is second only to Nicklaus.
Surprisingly only one of those second place finishes was to Tiger.
The others: Speith, Toms, McIlroy, Clarke, Stenson, Stewart, Goosen, Ogilvey, Glover and Rose.

Looking at the finishing places for the Top 10 after yesterday's final round

Nicklaus the biggest choker ever according to the metric used by many on this board.

Koepka played awful yet still got it round only 2 over. Many others would have slumped to an 80

Wouldn't argue with that, same with Oosthuizen's round. Was more to do with the lazy analysts on here that would crucify another player for the same thing.

Koepka's double bogey on the second was a massive swing after what happen at the first. Never managed to put enough pressure on Mickelson after that, Phil had a 2/3/4 shot cushion until Koepka put a bit of pressure on with back to back birdies at 15+16.

Koepka, Rahm, Speith, Bryson are currently top of the betting for the next major

Speith played reasonably well but couldn't buy a putt on the first two days, Koepka was playing with a knee injury that was bound to hamper him. If you watch PGA golf Oosthuizen threatens a fair bit with out delivering. Thomas has been up and down this year mainly a reaction to his Granddads death. Whilst it is great to see Phil standing up for the older guys 4 rounds is a lot to do at that age. Rahm didn't play well but was still hanging about and Bryson is just Bryson. The US Open will feature the usual suspects but it would be nice to see someone like Fowler win it.

I'd disagree, sometimes you need a bit of luck to win a major or one bit of genius (Bubba's wedge at the masters). He's one more than a lot of his peers and very consistent in the majors. He's been beaten rather than thrown it away.

I reckon he could win a another 1 or 2 if he lay of the tractors and focused  :D

Fowler will have bother winning a tournament he isn't in (as of yet.)

Deary me, I didn't think the McIlroy fan boys would get so rattled.

Mickleson was winning majors when Tiger was at his peak. If he was in his prime at the same time McIlroy was about he'd probably have double his current amount.

Koepka choked yesterday. Missing those easy putts had nothing to do with his knee.
