2 guards and a jetski for 79 competitors. Ridiculous.

I see the athletes have been unhappy with the quality of the food in the Olympic Village, and specifically the lack of meat on the menus. The Brits seemingly flew in their own chefs after their team was complaining they weren't getting enough chicken and eggs. Apparently the organisers wanted to cut the carbon footprint of the games by being 'vegetarian-focused', but I'd have though if anyone needed protein, it would be high-performance athletes!

I would have thought bringing your own chefs would have been the norm, similar to bringing your own team of doctors etc to the Olympics? The risk of food poisoning could ruin years of preparation for teams.

RIP to the crossfit athlete, awful tragedy.  Seen footage of it yesterday, it does seem like a major H&S concern/oversight by crossfit by not having more lifeguards on patrol.

I remember watching a documentary on it before, and they had athletes doing a long intense event in 40degree heat, where 2/3 collapsed immediately after completing it one being subsequently hospitalised.  I remember thinking how the feck do they get insurance for this.
I tend to think of myself as a one man wolfpack...

It is fine for Britain or Germany to send in 2 chefs and ship food from the home country, but athletes from some place like Chad or Myanmar complain that they are not on an even footing when this happens. The Olympic village should have supplied the food that athletes need, without the woke posturing. Countries shipping in food uses more Co2 than supplying local chicken.

I see quite a few African sprinters nowadays in this Olympics - is this new?
