What's the thoughts here? Over the years senior clubs in Armagh have dabbled with entering a seconds team in the junior leagues/championship with varying success and they've started doing it again the past year or so. I can see the reasoning behind doing so (reserve football is a joke for anyone seeking meaningful football). Does it go on in any other counties? (I know Tyrone allow it) What's the feelings from proper Junior clubs?

Was just browsing the club results on GAA.ie and noticed Glen Rovers of Cork have been relegated from senior hurling in Cork, not sure if it's a shock or not or was eventually going to happen but they were one of the clubs I always associated with Cork hurling. I see former Down kingpins Bryansford have also been relegated from senior football after losing a play off. St John's in Belfast while not relegated shipped a heavy defeat in their hurling QF and look to be on the way down in both codes - another club I always associated with Antrim football (and lesser extent hurling). Clubs always go through a lean period but these are names I always associated with the top level.

Here's one that will rub a few boys up the wrong way...
Technically the club isn't a GAA-club as they're not affiliated; and nor are they the first one.
They do openly pose questions re trans/non-binary though. How does the GAA approach this? On an individual basis?

Watched the Armagh final today, very entertaining affair. First half was cagey enough with both teams making sloppy mistakes with Cross first to make an impression. As the game wore on CE got back into it and the teams were level at 0-5 each at ht. The second half saw Cross hit 0-6 without reply before a hell of a comeback from CE with two inspired substitutions and one absolute howler of a goal.

CE make their first foray into Ulster at this level against a Creggan side in a similar situation. I'd have that game at 50/50, probably depend on which team sobers up first. Either side would fancy their chances through the "weaker" side of the draw.

Interesting topic in today's Irish News (does Casement fall under urban investment, or provincial?) that highlights the lack of county players in a select number of urban centres.

While I think that success should not necessarily be measured in the number of county players produced; and that the towns/cities in the article have been specially cherry-picked, completely ignoring the fact there are plenty of other towns providing county players, I  don't disagree with the sentiment that some urban areas would appear to be a lost cause.

This seems to be a perennial issue, some towns seem to have got their act together (Lurgan will have 3 clubs competing in the Armagh SFC this year) while others, like Newry or Derry,  seem condemned to Division 3/4 mediocrity. Is this an issue for the county boards to tackle or the Ulster council? I know money is being thrown at certain counties, but is it really worth it? Is it better letting individual county boards tackle as they have more intimate knowledge of the clubs involved?

That Newry hasn't produced a county player since 2012 is shocking.

A lot of talk on social media surrounding women's safety in the wake of the tragic kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard. The usual "not all men" nonsense is going about and this being a male-dominated forum it would be useful to discuss this (apologies if there is already a thread).

Probably something I didn't pay too much heed to when I was younger but something I've become more acutely aware of in recent years, having had female relatives in tears needing lifted and female friends wanting a lift or to talk on the phone because they don't feel safe walking at night. Probably something more common in bigger cities and this specific case is thankfully rare; but the general culture of men giving unwanted attention to lone women is often overlooked, no matter how benign it might appear to be.

Bit of a minor shock this afternoon, St Ronan's beating St Colman's in Burren 1-13 to 1-10 to reach their first semi final since the 80s iirc (as St Michael's).

St Pat's Maghera into the semis also after beating Omagh CBS 2-8 to 1-9.

The other two qfs this weekend are SPAD v St Patrick's Cavan and St Paul's Bessbrook v St Michael's Enniskillen

Haven't seen a thread so apologies if there is one. Doesn't seem to be much chat on these games. Clonmel sprung a bit of a shock in winning Munster but that is indicative of the football renaissance going on in Tipp so they can't be taken too lightly. Dublin teams are always strong at this level and are 8/15 favs to win however both teams are novices at this level.

I think the winner will come from the other semi final. Castlebar looked impressive so far in Connacht as did Cross until they eventually got past a very stubborn Scotstown team. Think Cross are justified in the slight favourites tag, they've a lot more experience at this level and that could very well be the difference between the two..

Set up a team and thought I'd create a mini league for the board while I was at it.

Was having this discussion with a few lads last week after Armagh were bate. Trying in jest to think of a club that would take one of our more portly acquaintances. We reckon in Armagh right now it is probably O'Hanlon's, with honourable mentions for Corrinshego, Mullabrack, phelim bradys and Killeen. The last 3 have all folded. The overall standard of football in Armagh is at best average so we think we might have a contender. I've heard tales of dromintee-esque attire in games in Co Down, though they possibly face stiff competition from Co Antrim?
