General discussion / Re: Android Boxes
July 30, 2015, 07:08:33 PM
Bud Wiser is launching a new one on 10th August, was supposed to have it this week.  If you can't wait then the best next one is Zoomtak. Make sure it is from the original manufacturer and has an aluminium case. Apart from dissipating heat the amount of junk stuffed into plastic boxes is unbelievable - and dangerous.

Next year our flat screen 1080p will be history as we all move to 4K UHD (Ultra High Definition) and there are a couple of comparrisons on YouTube about UHD.  Our box already has the capability to stream UHD. If you are looking at UHD on YouTube make your screen full screen and then go to settings within YouTube and select UHD above 1080p.

Our new box has 4K Streaming/Ultra High Definition and comes with Android V 5.1

If we do get to a Leinster Final by bating Galway then Cheddar will have done more for hurling in Laois, along with the players and all the others involved of course, than has been done in twenty years. The place is alive down there with coaching sessions for young lads and different events not to mention the amount of appeals from all the clubs for support for the team. There was a time, well one that I remember anyway, when some clubs couldn't give a flying £$ if the county team were playing on the village square. This is different, can't put my finger on any one particular reason but there is huge interest. Laois, it's a dangerous place to be now, one could get the belt of a lotto machine raising funds for clubs, knocked down by mentors rushing to train U-12's at half past six on a Monday evening and all the rushing about that is all part of the good old GAA. I hope we make hay against Galway.

He will never be anywhere near as good as McDonald.

Ah them were the days all-right, when prayers were said, sheep were painted and Laois were on the rise !

1972. In Laois anyway. My town, Ballinakill, won the 1973, 74 and 75 U-21 Hurling Finals in a row, contested Intermediate and Senior Finals and had no players on the County team because they were not from Portlaoise or knew the selection committee, or were not good enough at fighting or getting sent off.  >:(

Football is gone so bad now that you want to reward a player for catching and kicking the ball. Maybe throw in a free pass to Coppers and a guaranteed ride if they actually kick the ball more than once in an entire game.  Who was it said someone should go around with a sprong and burst all them footballs? Maybe close down football for a while until all the basketball and women's stuff disperses and just let every club play hurling.  I was listening to a woman there dother day and she was saying that "I am going to make sure my two eldest take up the gaelic football, it is much safer than that bloody snoooker"   I think the game is finished and if it's not this years championship will definitely finish it.

They played as Queen's County in the 1915 final, didn't they?

No, at that time the town that won the county final represented the county.  Ballygeeghan (Ballacolla) was who represented Laois.
For the Semi-Final one player walked from Portlaoise to Ballyroan to milk cows before training and then walked on to Abbeyleix to meet up with his team.

Laois was once known as Queens County many years ago, as Offaly was known as Kings County.
However, the men of Laois and Offaly took no shit even back then and both counties kicked the Brits and anything to do with them out of the place.
Britain does cling on to ownership of other counties but not Laois or Offaly though.

The only All-Ireland boots we have to sell in Laois will be 100 years old next year and they were hurling boots and I don't think I will be around to bid for the next ones.

That was a super gesture from Aidan when he went over to the young lad after the game and it is what the GAA is all about.

GAA Discussion / Re: Ticket Scam
September 14, 2014, 09:56:38 AM
I wouldn't say GAA fans will get caught but,  with the advent of Sky and the fact next years hurling final has to be played in Wembley (to compensate Sky for moving the Mayo/Kerry replay game to Limerick when they had a contract for Croke Park) you could see a big rise in ticket scams.

I was thinking myself of starting an upmarket kind of outlet down in Laois to commemorate our Drive for Two, next year being exactly one hundred years since we won the only All-Ireland we ever won. Something along the lines of a cross between an escort agency and a tour guide where you get your ticket and a woman for the day, hotel, tickets for Coppers and an all inclusive package.  If these boys are getting €350 for a ticket for the Davin to watch a game of basketball with the odd kick where the ball is launched in to Dunkin Donaghy then I should be on a winner.

Even these boys company have a Collimore Rd, Dalkey asociation.  Their address is a virtual office though where you just rent an address so be wary of that.
