I think £8.5m plus a sell on fee?
Stand to be corrected.

I notice a lot more of fees not being mentioned these days.  Just says 'a fee was agreed between X and Y'.

Is that to do with financial fair play at clubs?

could well be. Does anyone pay a transfer fee up front these days?

In modern days Celtic's record was set with the transfer of Hartson,Sutton Lennon and Mjallby.
The money paid for Idah is a pittance in comparison.

Wonder how much College Corinthians in Douglas Cork get in financially from the Idah fee?

That's over 20 years ago. Celtic invested for Europe and it paid off over them years.

My point is Lawell and Board could have this Idah deal done two months ago for £3m less but they f^"ked about and put in silly offers to Norwich.  Typical Celtic. Deal for Idah should have been done in early June.

In a way Peter Lawell must be working for Atlanta re: Matt O Riley. I see they've come in with another offer, possibly their 5th offer this summer for him. WTF! If I was Celtic, I'd say, no more offers unless it's £30m - do a 'Norwich' on them.

I hope Idah does the business for  Celtic. He seems a good lad who's hapoy to be in Glasgow and is buzzing to play. His price tag was mainly to do with the Board's typical messing about - panic buy at that time.  I still think the Aberdeen lad, at £6m, would have been a great bit of business - even along with Idah.

The key thing is that Celtic, currently, have stood still this summer.  No further on in reality. Two loan signings, now bought. I think Kasper is similar to Harte but he's a real good bit of business.

Good chance O Riley will eventually go...so Celtic will be back to square one again.

PS - I see Ireland's Sammie Szmodics has left Blackburn for Ipswich for £9m. Top scorer in championship last season. Be interesting to see how he goes this season.

800k (euro) reportedly. Good boost for them.

O'Reilly will 100% go before the end of the window, i am fairly confident of that. Do Celtic have a squad to be even half competitive in Europe? Not even close.
Idah is a decent enough striker but couldn't get a game for Championship side Norwich. How do we expect him to bang them in in Europe.
Celtic lack that spark in Europe (something Jota used to provide), O'Reilly is the only real player you would fancy to pull something out of the bag vs a decent team in Europe. The rest just are nowhere near good enough

JimStynes

Take the money and run with regards to O'Reilly. If he doesn't he's liable to down tools and be worth f**k all in 6 months, similar to Edouard the other year.
Celtic really do my head in with buying players though. You'd think, they'll spend that 20 odd million of 4 decent players but that won't happen. How many times over the years have they fucked about with transfers and let boys slip past. John McGinn springs to mind. And now as Marty34 has said, they've done the opposite and had to pay more than they should have for Idah. Surely Brendan Rodgers was promised signings? He did some great business the last time he was manager to be fair.

Also, will this finally be the year that Rangers die?

Can Rangers keep coming back?

Where's this at? Without keeping too close an eye on it I expect their botched stadium maintenance is something they can hardly afford but was essential, playing that CL qualifier at Hampden likely contributed to their defeat and they badly needed that CL cash.

There'll always be a hoard of gullible minions to fill Ibrox and buy jerseys and whatnot, which is why they'll continue to exist, but whats the bottom line, a second liquidation or is that unlikely, at a minimum it seems they are just going to have to swallow another generation of pure dross

The banters years must continue!

We have to trust in BR that he will get another 2-3 players in before window closes, A LB (no cover there at all) and a left CB is crucial. If O'Rielly moves on then we need a replacement for him. If he stays then an attacker in the form of a winger or striker is needed. Whether we can get these players in is to be seen.
It's so frustrating the way Celtic do business, other clubs identify a player and just go and buy them with little to no fuss but with Celtic it drags on for weeks and weeks with negotiations after negotiations...Urghhh

Great to see money filter down to the ground-roots especially in Ireland. Hopefully it is well spent.

Relative to todays money, the money paid for those players in Mon's time dwarfs the 9m paid for Idah. Thats a football transfer specific inflation value truth. The board invested serious money in Mons time, this 9m for Idah is a pittance in comparison
