Quote from: JPGJOHNNYG on September 17, 2024, 10:09:08 PMPuc would need a hell of a lot of cash thrown at it to bring it up to UEFA standards. The knocking down the old terracing and replacing it with identical terracing at great expense was absolute lunacy

The terracing at Casement park isn't that old either. I think it is from 1998 which makes it younger than the Cusack stand of Croke park and younger than Clones terracing.

Anyway, I am pleased Casement hasn't made the deadline as I don't want NI games at it anyway.

I don't find this reunion news that exciting. I have already seen Liam Gallagher live for €50 5 years ago and he even had the original Oasis guitarist playing. I am not much of a Noel fan although I appreciate that he was the brain behind those Oasis albums.

I am more interested in the Linkin Park reunion news next week with a supposed new singer. Also there is a rumour that Slipknot could be playing their debut album live at Download festival next year so I would rather save the money on something like that.

Derry / Re: Rory Gallagher
August 20, 2024, 02:49:13 AM
I consider all the fuss virtue signaling. They talk about setting a good example yet they don't have a problem with McFaul representing Derry? I bet there are many ex paramilitary members in Derry GAA yet I bet you wouldn't have a problem with that? In fact the Intermediate championship is named after IRA volunteers. I am not saying I have a problem with that myself but it is important to point out your hypocrisy. Do you support violence or not? Make up your minds.

I am not convinced having Gallagher back would make a difference, people have short memories, his last big Croke Park games were a hammering against Dublin in Division 2 final and a poor performance against Galway. He had his chance in 2022.

I was reading interesting information about the ancient kingdom of Offaly (Uibh Fhaili)
Much of County Offaly wasn't in the kingdom. The kingdom consisted of East Offaly, West Kildare and parts of Laois.

Usually it is a fuss about nothing over tickets. I remember the fuss and bickering before Derry's Ulster finals and my local club ended up with too many tickets and were advertising them on morning of match. It is just an excuse for people to hate on casual fans, usually the ones complaining have tickets themselves anyway. They complain about "prawn sandwich brigade" then 6 months later they are posting up photos of their one rugby game of the year at the Aviva or their annual venture to Old Trafford.

There are plenty of people involved in GAA with criminal records so people need to look at their double standards. I could tell you many stories about immoral characters in Derry GAA's past but I am not one to gossip about people online.

One thing I admire about women is that there is a brotherhood amongst women. They all stick up for eachother and have eachother's back. The same can't be said for men, men just compete with eachother just like in the animal kingdom. If a man attacks another man in society there is very little outrage. It is a shame we don't live in a world where there is harmony amongst men, not just primal competition.

I decided to quit alcohol or at least learn to stick to a few beers when I made a fool of myself at a recent concert. There have been other bad memories too for example in London when I was trying to get to the O2 Arena and I blacked out in the underground. Next thing I remember it is midnight and I am walking around one of the most dangerous towns in south London.

The people who preach about LGBT issues online don't even believe in it themselves. I will give you an example, the type of people who put their gender pronouns on their social media bios "She/her" have assumed my gender many times. They refer to me as "him" and "he", for all they know I could identify as gender neutral. It is just all virtue signaling.

The National League Division 1 is actually an awful competition. It will be interesting to see how Derry approach it next year. The main discussion point during the competition is who wants to make the final. In what other sport would you hear it?

The term 'All ticket' is an outdated term from when games were pay at the gate. All games now are all ticket, all digital ticket. I've seen many people still use this term. What they really should say is "All paper ticket".
Remember that Ticketmaster digital tickets can be printed out too. Maybe a better phrase would be "Tickets through club".

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on July 28, 2024, 05:29:17 PMAll those penalty mishaps, don't really matter now.
They do still matter because winning the All Ireland as Ulster champions surely must mean more. It certainly looks better in the history books. If Derry win it soon they can say they all have Ulster medals too.

I never knew Forker was from the Lough shore. I assume he is the first Sam Maguire winning captain from Lough shore. He would join Eamon Coleman in the Lough Neagh sporting legacy.

Remember that the people on social media who complain about 'bandwagoners' and the likes are the same people who attend Ireland rugby games and never go to club or province rugby. Also they are the same people who follow English soccer clubs and not local soccer. I have seen it on Facebook, people pictured at Six Nations games yet have never been to Rainey Old Boys Magherafelt games or Ulster games.

It is best to take these people with a pinch of salt as they don't even recognise their double standards.

I feel some resentment at seeing Armagh in the final given that Derry are the ones with 2 Ulster championships in a row. Although I do want them to win given that they are northern, maybe when the ball is thrown in my bitterness may consume me.

I see Brolly said on twitter that his grandmother was from Donegal. I assume that is on his fathers side. Given that his mother's side are from the Coalisland region that means he actually doesn't have much Co.Derry ancestry. All this talk about Derryness from a man with 25% ancestry from the county.
