21 hours extra rest and a 4 hour journey, probably no great advantage.

Down the day before, full spa treatment, yoga...? 🤔

Seaweed baths, climb the reek, Mickey lead the rosary at Knock?

;D Drink in the word of god covered in seaweed!

Quote from: Mario on June 19, 2024, 01:59:49 PMI don't think it's a big decision. McEvoy will be 6, that's were Harte has played him all year. Mckinless will be wing half back. There is zero chance Baker gets dropped, he set up two goals v Westmeath and has been playing very well.

The total dismissing of Derry has been winding me up in the build up. Listening to podcasts talking about who will face Mayo in the quarters etc. I suppose we've only ourselves to blame but it's a knockout game, very close to 50/50 with bookies. I would love it if we clicked again on Sat night. I'm expecting the strongest Derry line up we've seen in a while

Why would that wind you up? It's just opinions based on what people have been seeing. Two months ago Derry were being hyped up as AI contenders based on what people had seen. If you go down to Castlebar and beat Mayo, the big headlines will be "Derry are back" and how no one will want them in the quarter final! That's the nature of sport. At the very worst, Derry can take the perceived dismissals and use them for motivation, but you must admit that Derry have a lot to prove and Mayo are a tough, established Div 1 level side.

Confident the players will put in a serious shift and put it up to Mayo. Tbh, even if we were firing on all cylinders, playing Mayo down in Castlebar would be a serious challenge with only a kick of a ball in it.
I'd start an extra 'defender' and keep the game as close as possible. Mayo come out of the blocks quickly (which they don't often do) we could be in bother. Mayo usually like to treat their fans to a, stressful swashbuckling finale reeling in the opposition. This could be a real clinker of a game

Quote from: Silver hill on June 20, 2024, 09:26:02 PMLads, the reason for the slump is because effectively Derry are without a manager at present. Harte offers nothing on the sideline, doesn't open his mouth in the dressing room and leaves all the training to Devlin. There are a number of players with whom he has had zero interaction with. As in, he has never spoken to. Players are not stupid, they see things with their own eyes. They smell the bullshit. Gallagher believed and invested his soul into Derry and the players responded in kind. Harte is an imposter and shame on our County board for appointing him.

Brolly in as your ghost writer? That's some diatribe on the eve of the Mayo game.. Serves no one but yourself

I'm sorry if it upset you to read that

Why on earth would it upset me? Margaret's prediction holds as much weight as Laoisman11's.

I have no idea, fragile confidence? Why do you think it upset you?

What county are you from that you're fit to belittle a national title? I'd say your trophy war chest is worth the viewing

Up the NFL!

Knew from your posting on here over the years that you had some Mayo connection.  I'd say she'll be closer to the margin than Laoisman11's stats model.

Margaret is a Derry woman, half Donegal right enough. My connection to Mayo is purely from the heart... I'll have a caravan there some year

Quote from: Truthsayer on June 19, 2024, 12:11:57 PMThe denial system from Derry supporters is incredible. Gallagher put that together including back to back Ulster titles and Harte has dismantled it. No-one cares bout the league as long as you don't get relegated. For God's sake Mayo won it last year... who knew!
The championship campaign has been a laughing stock...

In a few points, what has Harte done to dismantle it?
Have you not watched the last four games? Sent them out with the bizarre tactics against Donegal that saw them overturned time and again and a keeper hung out to dry scampering to get back to goal... and then persevering with it including the Westmeath game where the All Ireland contenders scrapped past a Div 2 or 3 team or whatever they are. Definition of insanity is repeating the same behaviour and expecting different result...

Haven't missed a game all year. Same tactics that won 2 Ulsters and a Div 1. Work rate not there to play a highline and on the front foot (Harte's team mentioned in the same breadth as Dublin a matter of weeks ago).
Westmeath, the line wasn't near as high for most of the game and Lynch didn't compete for a single kickout, and had cover straight in when linking up.

The fact you have 50 Derry posts to every post re your own county speaks volumes

Good stuff keep doing what you're doing! Dublin a very different animal in the championship.. comparisons to the Dubs was a bit fanciful. This isn't a Derry thread is dedicated to a Derry podcaster (is that a word?) who comments a lot on a Tyrone manager who crossed the wall...
I fear for Tyrone if the Dubs are a different animal in the championship because they beat them by 20 points in the league
Tyrone are a team in transition with a load of players gone since the All Ireland win three years ago and, not sure the number, but a lot making their championship debut this year. The expectations are realistic... meanwhile Derry dust off the shelf for Sam after winning the league 😁

You'd have to chalk that done to poor management

Quote from: Rossfan on June 19, 2024, 05:47:09 PMSo the (Nordie)consensus is Derry to bate Mayowestros,  only thing in question is the margin of victory.

 :o  ::)

I don't know where you found that "consensus", but I can categorically say its certainly not the popular opinion from us "nordies".
A full strength, fully fit Derry beats a full strength fully fit Mayo 9/10 times.
We are far from full strength and players returning from injury are not fully fit. We're low on confidence given the manner of the defeats we've had and I personally feel the players are not buying into the Harte regime. A combination of injuries and a lack of belief in management and their "tactics" are resulting in the performances we're seeing.

Difficult to see a Derry win, unless we get a couple more players back from injury (Conor Doherty and Nial Loughlin) and unless we sort out the tactics.

I hope I'm wrong and the tripping over the line win against Westmeath is the kickstart our championship needs...but I'm expecting a Mayo win unfortunately.
Highlighted bit sickens my hole a bit I have to say, Derry supporters are a bit deluded as to where they are really at or even were. Their go to point of reference is the Kerry AI semi or League final v Dubs, 2 good performances but they're outliers not their 'standard', caught Kerry off guard a bit (still got beaten too), after a gift of a route to the semi (2 years in a row btw). Played championship fit all year this NFL season and now NFL Penalty Kick Champs but possibly reaping the whirlwind for that approach now too.

With all players fit Derry are a good team among other good teams (behind a couple of better teams), nothing more.

 ;D.. Gold!
