Didn't know Sinn Fein had exclusive rights to the tricolour.

She gave an opinion not a directive. Whatever group done all the theatrics at this funeral, why would you even want to be associated with someone like that and give them some sort of hero's send off
Any excuse to criticise. I'd be more critical of their love in with GSTK and the GAWA, legitimising the IFA's sectarian approach to the"national team." At least the Scots get it.

Quote from: Ethan Tremblay on March 25, 2024, 10:19:52 AMIn my view sometimes it takes a close call or a friend/family/community member to unfortunately lose their lives on the roads for it to hit home to young ones what impact driving can have, not even dangerous driving at that.

For young ones, possible overconfidence can lead to accidents.  Like driving down a familiar road at speed etc.  I know a few that have written off cars on roads less than a mile from home, just because they think they know every inch of it, gives them the right to drive it how they please.

I think about this sometimes now when I'm driving as I have certainly changed now that I have gotten older. Now i'm not saying I was a complete tube in my early 20s but I didnt like to be stuck behind someone that I perceived to be crawling. I did have a very near miss while overtaking on a straight section of a country road that I thought I knew well.  A car came out of the hidden dip straight on and I was so lucky to avoid a serious collision. I was in the car by myself too so it isn't as if I was playing the big one to peers.  It certainly put manners on me.

Age has certainly also changed my need to drive on the upper side of the speed limit, and the mythical 10% you are allowed.

The thing that slowed me down is the average fuel consumption gauge. I have noticed also the numbers of speedsters flying past me that I catch up with at the next junction/lights or village.

Quote from: johnnycool on March 25, 2024, 09:18:27 AMCentral Council were blindsided by the Breffni Kingspan Ulster Rugby event as the thing had been publicised before Central Council had even discussed it, making it very hard for them to row back on it, but Cavan CB evidently knowing that it's easier to ask for forgiveness rather than permission!

It was only right that it hosted that game, Ulster Rugby are trying very hard to reach out through the whole 9 counties and I am glad to see the GAA obliging.

Replace Mr Tambourine Man with the much maligned (wrongly imo) Wagon Wheel and you have my top three.

Thought you preferred Nathans version
Dylan never recorded Wagon Wheel to my knowledge. The original is By Old Crow Medicine Show, Critter Fuqua completed a partially written Dylan piece. But Three is not enough when describing his genius.

There ya goo. Unrecognisable really.
That is not Dylan

Not going to argue with someone as knowledgeable about Dylan as yourself but it sounds like him to me.
The voice is too good lol, but if you read the comments the actual singer is named.A Dylan. version was apparently out on a boot leg which is where OCMS picked it up, it was partially recorded with a lot of foot stomping and the lyrics were hard to make out.

That's some knowledge!! Fair play, I'll cast my eyes down.

Quote from: Ronnie on March 19, 2024, 07:07:13 PMI'd agree.  3 songs is limiting.  Perhaps you should've asked which album is your favourite? I own about 15 & would say Highway 61 Revisited.  I don't proclaim to be an expert either..
My there albums would be
Bringing it all back home
Blood on the Tracks
John Wesley Harding......f**k there's about 10 more

Quote from: Caitlin on March 16, 2024, 09:00:25 AMClaire Hanna is the most articulate and effective politician in the six counties. Far from being tied in knors I thought she was clear on The View. She put manners on Jim Alister a few weeks ago and has been principled and consistent over Gaza. Of course she is seeking to maximise her vote in South Belfast- what would you expect?
She made no sense and could not refute Feeney's argument, even Mark Caruthers said as much when pressing her. No doubt she is the best the SDLP have to offer.

Christ you would think that Irish teams of all codes are winning internationally recognised competitions year in year out to read some of the commentary on here. Can we not just enjoy the fact that at international level in Rugby we are in with a shout. The only other sport we come close in is boxing.

Quote from: Sportacus on March 15, 2024, 02:07:19 PMI had to listen very carefully to make any sense of what Feeney was trying to say.  He was trying to make points but always seemed to stop short and leave it hanging with a big 'you know what I mean', look on his face. Wasn't really clear at all what he was on about.
He was quite clear, in that the structures for unity should be put in place, they are not reliant on reconciliation, nor do they exclude it. He stated that to make reconciliation a prerequisite as Hanna argued would give unionists another means to frustrate by claiming reconciliation has. not taken place. He also quite rightly asked how you could measure reconciliation, and rightly pointed out this is not required by the GFA.

Claire Hanna tied in knots on The View by Brian Feeney.  Very close to Alliance with her views on unity.

This Stadium should not be looked at solely from the point of view of GAA matches alone. With a proper  stadium management team, marketing etc it should become a profit centre. Concerts, other sporting events, commercialisation, stadium tours, GAA museum etc... should mean that far from being a drain it will add to resources. It should bring jobs and  footfall to the local area supporting both local and wider Belfast businesses.
