Superb, made a hash on the 18th but the bunker shot was played with finese, excellent.

Lose and the choker tag unfortunately goes on his shoulders, he sinks it, first win of many.
Good man. Big confidence boost for him and a few quid in his pocket.

Upto 15th in the World.

Iirsh golf just keeps going up in the world. 2009 could be another cracker.

Great win for Rory and the first of many to come in his career. As he said in his interview afterwards, the monkey is now off his back. I thought he had thrown it away but he showed great bottle to hole that putt on the 18th
We'll win Ulster some day, not sure when.

All before a glorified friendly tournament.

Padraig Harrington has been putting in the hours to cure a hook before tackling this week's AT&T National Pro-am at Pebble Beach.

"The range I was on I managed to close six nights last week and I closed it both nights this week as well," said the Open and US PGA champion, whose first event in America this season saw him finish joint 24th at the Buick Invitational on Sunday.

"A lot of practice has been done to try and figure it out, and I am more hopeful that I've kind of getting to the root cause of it.

"I obviously struggled last week. I knew I was struggling at the start of the week.

"But you kind of expect that when you come out after the winter. I've done quite a bit of work and what tends to happen is when you are changing things and working on things you overdo it.

"It does take a little bit of competition, a little bit of playing to figure that out."

Harrington's partner is once again fellow Irishman JP McManus and they are paired with Paul McGinley and Dermot Desmond.

"It's entertaining for me," added the world number three. "We have a very relaxed week off the golf course and I'll try harder to win the team event than I will the individual event this week.

"If I'm making bogey at a hole or something and my partner has a putt for birdie, I'm over there reading it and it cheers me up if he makes the birdie.

"I get into the idea of the team event, of trying to do well in that and that keeps me going in the individual event. It just works very well for me."

Insider comment: I think the Maybank Malaysian Open should be awarded to Gareth Maybin on account of him having the most similar name to the competition.

On a related note, an even smaller name that Noh has become the second youngest to play in a Ladies open. Oh whats her name. Oh.

McIlroy into last 8 of his first WGC and now the big Easy is tipping him to be the next World Number 1  8)
No pressure there then, though in fairness the lad seems so confident and free of nerves.  Great to see it.

McIlroy beaten 2 and 1.

corn02

Massive, massive positives for McIlroy. Watched most of it, but missed last six or seven today. He has that swagger now and his confidence is sky high. Major winner by 2014.

Careful now. Rory has relations on this board!

Dougal Maguire

Is it true that Rory's father played for Down minors?
Careful now

A lot of people seem to think he has a cocky attitude, they must not listen to any of his interviews.

He generally says the right things, "going well, need to keep going", you can almost guess what he is going to say - a model proffesional.

Harrington hitting a bit of form now at Doral, but Stenson steals the show today...
