Hard to believe, 30 days!
Does the victims family have to agree with this settlement?

It is up to the District Attorney/States Attorney for the criminal charges. The DA/SA will discuss the reality of going forward with the charges and take their input into consideration, but ultimately its in the prosecutors hands.

The undisclosed financial settlement is probably high enough to buy the family's silence.

Report: Steve McNair Slain
Posted by Mike Florio on July 4, 2009 4:18 PM
According to NewsChannel5.com in Nashville, long-time NFL quarterback Steve McNair has been found dead.

McNair reportedly suffered a gunshot wound in an apparent murder-suicide.

Further details currently are not available; check back for more developments.

He was a first-round pick of the Houston Oilers in 1995, and he played for the franchise through the 2005 season.  McNair was then traded to the Ravens, and he spent two seasons in Baltimore before retiring.

UPDATE:  The report from NewsChanel5.com has been revised to describe the situation as a "double homicide."

Steve McNair, the NFL's co-MVP in 2003, has been found dead according to the Nashville police. An unidentified woman was also found dead at the scene.

"We do not know the circumstances related to the death," Don Aaron, information director for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, said.

The former Titans and Ravens quarterback was the franchise leader in wins by a starting quarterback and was the single-season record-holder in passer rating.

He was drafted third overall by the Houston Oilers in 1995 after a sparkling career at then-Div. I-AA Alcorn State.

He spent the first 11 years of his career with the Oilers/Tennessee Titans and in addition to winning 2003 league MVP honors, he led the Titans to Super Bowl XXXIV.

In his final two seasons, McNair was the Ravens' starting quarterback and in 2006 he led them to a 13-3 record and an AFC North crown.

"We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair's passing today," Tennessee Titans owner K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr. said in a statement. "He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing."

HOLY SHIT, just read that. Unbelievable. How many NFL players have died needlessly in the last few years, its just sickening and sad.

A hard lesson for Mc Nair

Police: McNair was murdered by girlfriend, who then killed herself
Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Police confirmed Wednesday that former NFL quarterback Steve McNair's 20-year-old girlfriend killed him before turning the gun on herself.

Police said they might never know what was going through Sahel Kazemi's mind when she shot McNair in his condominium early Saturday, but interviews with friends led detectives to conclude she was becoming increasingly distraught over events in her life, including financial problems. Police said she also suspected McNair was seeing another woman.

Police earlier had labeled McNair's death a homicide but awaited further tests and investigation before saying for sure what happened.

At one point, Kazemi told an associate that her "personal life was all screwed up," Police Chief Ronal Serpas said. She had mounting debts and had been unable to sell her car. Her roommate was moving, which would have doubled her rent.

"We do know that she was clearly sending a message during the last five to seven days of her life that things were going bad quickly," Serpas said, though there was no indication she told anyone she planned to harm McNair.

Serpas said police believe McNair was asleep on a sofa when Kazemi shot him in the head. Kazemi then apparently shot McNair twice in the chest before shooting him again in the head and then shooting herself.

McNair, a quarterback for the Tennessee Titans for most of his 13-year NFL career, was shot at a condo that he rented with another man. The gun was found underneath Kazemi.

Kazemi's family told reporters that the woman was so confident McNair was divorcing his wife of 12 years that she was preparing to sell her furniture and move in with him. But associate Mike Mu, who has worked with McNair's charitable association for years, said the former quarterback's wife, Mechelle McNair, "didn't know who this girl is." No records of divorce proceedings have surfaced.

Two days before the shooting, police stopped Kazemi driving the Escalade sports-utility vehicle that McNair gave her for her birthday in May.

According to an arrest affidavit, Kazemi had bloodshot eyes and alcohol on her breath. She refused a breath test and told an officer "she was not drunk, she was high." She was charged with DUI.

McNair was with Kazemi but wasn't charged. He later paid her bail.
