Thank God for Naval Commandos!  They've been keeping us safe by killing suspected terrorists all over Iraq & Afghanistan for 6 years and now they are taking on the suspected Pirates and their jolly rogering!

Commandos kill suspected pirates

British commandos killed two suspected pirates who tried to seize a Danish ship in the Gulf of Aden in an unprecedented operation involving a Royal Navy and a Russian warship, it was revealed yesterday.

The suspected pirates were shot after the Royal Marine commandos, in rigid inflatable boats launched from the frigate HMS Cumberland, were fired at from a Yemeni flagged dhow, the Ministry of Defence said.

It said the Cumberland was conducting routine Nato security operations in the Gulf of Aden when a number of its crew boarded the dhow, which was towing a skiff. The British crew "had reason to believe" the dhow had been involved in an armed attack on the Danish-registered vessel, the MV Powerful, earlier on Tuesday, the day of the gunfight.

"Various non-forcible methods had been used in an attempt to stop the dhow but they were unsuccessful", the MoD said. The inflatables were launched to circle the dhow in an attempt to encourage it to stop. People on the dhow fired at the British commandos, who returned fire in self-defence, the MoD added.

It said that the dhow crew subsequently surrendered and a boarding followed. Two of its crew, believed to be pirates, had been shot and killed. The MoD said the boarding operation, which took place south of the Yemeni coast, was conducted in accordance with British rules of engagement.

A Yemeni national was found injured and later died, despite receiving emergency treatment. The MoD said it was unclear whether his injuries were as a result of the gunfight or a previous incident.

This year at least 32 ships have been hijacked in the area.

Short odds on Obama being assassinated within the next 3 years.   Is a black president too much for white america to accept?

By all accounts it's Oasis.    They've been on the wane for years now and were a bigger when they backed REM!

Thought it might have been AC/DC before they announced the Point and then thought it might be Led Zep.

Am I expecting too much?

Some might say Offaly with Seamus Darby's goal but they had been in the final the year before and won deservedly.

For me it has to be Armagh in 2002.  It took a replay to get past Sligo by 2 points in the in the quarters, then a 1 point win over the Dubs courtesy of Cosgrove hitting the post then another 1 point win over Kerry in the final, having been outplayed for the major part of all 3 games.  How Kerry lost that final is still the subject of great debate in the old kingdom as they could and should have run out 6 or 7 point winners.

Adds a lot of weight to the 'destiny' theory when you can ride your luck to an AI title in the way Armagh did.

September 16, 2008, 02:07:03 PM
Does anyone know anywhere doing free lens trials where you don't have to pay for the check-up?

Like me you probably get yr lense on the net as it's much cheaper, but now you need a fitting & check-up from a local opticians or they won't send them to you... at least that what i've been told.

Any help appreciated.

General discussion / Hotel Rooms in New York
September 09, 2008, 09:14:54 AM
We've been trying to book hotels in NY and for a wedding & they are unbelivelably expensive at present.  $450-$550 per night for anything 4 star.  Rooms rates seem to have increased dramatically in recent years.  Anyone know why?

Are the games only avail on Setanta or can you see them on RTE on Sky?

Charlie Redmond not leaving the field when sent off by Paddy Russell in 1995 AIF  makes no 16.    Redmond is laffin his bollix off on the show knowing fine well that the game should have been awarded to Tyrone due to his refusal to leave the pitch.   Not that I'd have wanted to win our first all-ireland that way! Well not now anyway!  >:( ;) :D :P

Firstly the seniors get taken to the cleaners by a Tommy Murphy Cup team, then their finest son's team comes up short against Cork and to add insult to injury the women get annihilated by their fiercest rivals Tyrone.

Allegedly there's Novenas runnin all across the county prayin for a Dublin winning score-line against Tyrone similar to that of the 1977 All-Ireland final........

A buckfast embargo or a plague of dippers could well spiral the county into insanity........ ;) :P

How long ago did the Garda drop the requirement for speaking Irish?

I've never seen Pillar Caffrey speak it on TG4 either so it must have been a while ago.

Simple question.  No ifs or maybes, either stay or go.  No sitting on the fence. Nothing to do with the american owners, just Benitez.

Try and keep it to pool fans only.
