Any word on whos taking the team this year?  Anybody know whos being called up into the panel.  About time that the best possible team was put out involving dungannon, carrickmore, strabane and coalisland.  Any ideas? Armagh are now in division 2 of NHL, Tyrone should be there also!

#4
Donegal 3-19 Tyrone 0-09

by Alan Foley (Donegal People's Press) at O'Donnell Park

Manager Eamonn Campbell will have been content enough with what he saw, although Donegal played only in fits and starts to begin with, before settling the more the game went on. Lee Henderson grabbed two goals after Ciaran Mathewson scored the opener in the second half.

By half-time, Donegal led by five points, 0-9 to 0-4, which was a fair enough reflection of their showing to that point. Niall Campbell from play and Kevin Campbell's free were added to by three from Enda McDermott, while Lee Henderson and Stephen Boyle added braces.

At the other end, Tyrone's attacks were infrequent, although Jimmy Treacy's two points were supplemented by Paul Lavery and Seamus McLaughney, as Tyrone finished the half stronger.

Donegal, despite being the better team to begin with, were more than aware of the possibility of swift change as they headed for the dressing rooms. A fortnight ago, despite leading by 14 points at one stage against Longford, the midlanders actually fought back to level at one stage. Against Tyrone, such complacency was not permitted.

The visitors scored the opening score of the second half through a smart David Lavery effort, but Donegal reasserted themselves, on 47 minutes, with the first goal of the game when Mathewson smashed past McCabe. Henderson's second goal on 61 minutes, when he broke through and finished neatly, put the icing on the cake for Donegal and he put the cherry on top when, without a hurl in his hand, he kicked home two minutes later.

Donegal: Ciaran Kelly; Conor McLoughlin, Joe Boyle, Warren Scanlon; Mickey McCann (0-1), Danny Cullen, Barry Friel; Paddy Hannigan, Enda McDermott (0-3); Stephen Boyle (0-3), Kevin Campbell (0-5, 3f), Niall Campbell (0-2); Ciaran Mathewson (1-0), Sean McVeigh (0-1), Lee Henderson (2-4).

Subs: Eugene Organ for McDermott (31 mins), Michael McGee for Cullen (36 mins), Benny Hannigan for Boyle (yellow card, 58 mins)

Tyrone: Declan McCabe; Niall O'Neill, Mickey Kelly, Sean O'Neill; Sean Paul Begley, Damian Maguire, Conor Gallagher; Shea McKiver, Justin Kelly (0-1); Jimmy Treacy (0-3, 2f), Paul Lavery (0-1), Peter O'Connor; Seamus McLaughney (0-2), Conor O'Neill, D Lavery (0-1).

Subs: Aidan Kelly for McKiver (27 mins), Terry McIntosh for S O'Neill (46 mins), Conor Grogan (0-1) for D Lavery (57 mins), Aidan Taggart for S O'Neill (yellow card, 63mins), Stephen O'Loughlin for McCabe (68 mins), McKiver for McIntosh (68 mins).

RedHand Hurlers outclassed by technically superior exiles

London....7-21

Tyrone......0-8

THE scoreline says it all about this one-sided Division 3B National Hurling League clash at Oxley Park in Watford on Sunday, as the Tyrone hurlers slumped to a comprehensive defeat against a technically superior London side.

Fielding a youthful team, it was always going to be an uphill challenge for Tyrone and their cause wasn't helped when injury forced the influential Terry McIntosh to withdraw from the starting line up prior to the throw-in.

However, such was the dominance of the exiles, it is doubtful whether his presence would have made any difference as London's first touch, support play and finishing was superior to a Tyrone team who failed to get going.

Tyrone were lethargic in the opening period and they paid the price for a very flat display as London established a healthy 3-13 to 0-4 interval lead.

Mark Winters, Sean Paul Begley and Conor Gallagher battled heroically throughout but London with Niall O'Grady and Keith Kennedy on top at midfield always held too much class for the youthful visitors.

The London attack spearheaded by Martin Finn and Kevin McMullan oozed confidence as they clocked up the scores on their way an emphatic winning margin.

They were two points up before James Treacy fired over a free to open Tyrone's account on three minutes, but the enormity of the challenge facing Tyrone hit home in the following attack, when Jason Cody struck for their first goal for a 1-2 to 0-1 lead.

Further points increased their lead and while Treacy belted over another free London struck for a second major on nine minutes from Stephen Fox to effectively end the game as a contest.

With Finn, Brian McCormack and Cody wreaking havoc London reeled off another five points before striking for their third goal on 17 minutes via top scorer Finn for a 3-9 to 0-2 lead.

Justin Kelly and Treacy registered Tyrone points but it was London who continued to enjoy a monopoly on possession with another five-point flurry easing them into an eighteen-point interval lead.

The second half was always going to be about damage limitation but two goals in the opening two attacks underlined the gulf in class between the teams.

The points flowed over at regular intervals and while Tyrone managed second half scores from Treacy 0-3 and Paul Lavery, it wasn't enough to trouble a London team who have sent out a clear message of their title ambitions in the coming months with Brian McCormack registering a brilliant seventh goal ten minutes from time.

County hurlers suffer slender defeat against Tyrone

Tyrone 0-13 Longford 1-9
Sunday, 1st March 2009
BY LONGFORD LEADER

After losing against Roscommon in their opening fixture, the Longford hurlers suffered a slender defeat against Tyrone at Healy Park, Omagh on Sunday last and the midlanders are clearly fighting a tough battle to survive in Division 3B of the National League.

In the end it took a Peter O'Connor point two minutes from time to settle the issue. Tyrone held wind advantage first and dominated proceedings throughout the opening half on their way to a merited doubles scores lead, but having hit six wides to their opponents one, many felt their four point cushion wasn't sufficient.

They were right because Longford emerged for the second half a totally transformed team, and while Declan Tanner remained their main scoring threat the visitors took control. A Ciaran Finnucane goal handed them a 1-9 to 0-9 lead after 52 minutes, and as Tyrone laboured, Longford appeared to have the platform needed for victory.

Instead Tyrone redoubled their efforts with Sean O'Neill, Terry McIntosh, Justin Kelly and captain James Treacy raising their confidence before O'Connor hit the winning point. Longford missed a late chance to salvage the draw, but on the balance of play Tyrone just about deserved their victory.

It was Longford who took a fifth minute lead via the hurl of Tanner which was to be a trend repeated throughout the afternoon as he fired over a total of eight points. He levelled the game twice in the opening quarter after points from Paul Lavery and Kelly (two) edged Tyrone ahead. However, Tyrone were up for the challenge as they battled ferociously for every ball.

A Rory O'Neill point edged Tyrone 0-4 to 0-3 ahead on 20 minutes, but they were then let off the hook when Longford full-forward Brian Kirby flicked a Tanner delivery into the net. However, referee Brendan Sweeney disallowed the score for a square ball infringement and when Longford had Seamus Hannon yellow carded for a rash challenge on Lavery the momentum was firmly with the home side.

Lavery and Treacy converted frees to extend Tyrone's lead, and while a Tanner '65' kept Longford in contention, Tyrone finished the half strongly with two Treacy frees (one a '65') for a deserving 0-8 to 0-4 interval cushion.

Longford reduced the margin within 45 seconds of the restart courtesy of the influential Declan Tanner, who was posing all sorts of problems for the Tyrone defence.

Tanner's sixth point illustrated their determination and while Treacy replied with a quality long range score on 41 minutes, the impetus was with Longford.

Defender Anthony Corcoran floated over the score of the game from the sideline having collected a Brendan Stakem delivery before two further Tanner frees had the sides level for a fourth time, at 0-9 apiece after 46 minutes.

Tyrone were struggling to keep their shape and as a scrappy period unfolded Longford struck for a goal to take a firm grip of proceedings.

Tyrone defender Michael Kelly lost possession under pressure from Kirby and Finnucane, who kicked to the net for a three-point cushion. But that was Longford's final score as Tyrone, aided by the introduction of Conor Gallagher, responded in positive fashion.

James Treacy belted over three successive frees in a five minute period to level proceedings again before Leigh Moore and Gallagher combined to set up Peter O'Connor for the winning score.

TYRONE: Declan McCabe; Aidan Kelly, Michael Kelly Sean O'Neill; Sean Paul Begley, Terry McIntosh, Leigh Moore; Shea McKiver, Justin Kelly (0-2); James Treacy (0-7), Paul Lavery (0-2), Peter O'Connor (0-1); Conor Grogan, Rory O'Neill (0-1), Conor O'Neill.

The minors had a good win over Monaghan a couple of weeks ago. Some handy hurlers.

Tony Baloney

Has mortar man finally stirred some interest in Tyrone hurling two or three years after nrico starting the thread. Good to see them getting a win against Longford as it must be pretty depressing being on the wrong end of 7 goals and a rake of points against London.

What is the commitment like in the county to hurling? I remember years ago there would have been some half decent boys in Carrickmore.

Ulster Minor Hurling League Div 2
Tyrone 3-7 Donegal 4-7

Two Donegal goals in the dying minutes saw Donegal snatch victory away from a very unlucky Tyrone Minor Hurling team in Carrickmore on Sunday. The Tyrone lads suffered an early setback conceding a goal in the first minute of the game when the defence failed to deal with a long ball from open play. They did however get back on terms a short time later when Declan Mullan struck a goal after some brilliant play from wing forward Sean Kelly. A free from centre half forward Ciaran Donavan was quickly followed up by a second Tyrone goal again from the stick of Donavan with ten minutes to go in the first half. It was Donegal who finished the half the stronger though adding another 1-1 to go in the break 2-3 to 2-1 ahead. The second half was saw some of the best hurling in the game and Tyrone went about cancelling out the lead with smart scores from Liam Armstrong and a neat turn and point from substitute Kevin Barry Corrigan.   The Tyrone defence at this stage were mopping up everything that Donegal threw at them with full back Brendan Begley and centre half back Aidan Kelly particularly impressive. Mid way through the half Tyrone's dominance was rewarded with a third goal from sub Dylan Cushley shortly before the Sean Kelly and Kevin Barry Corrigan added scores to stretch the Tyrone advantage to four. That advantage however was cruelly cut down in the 59th and 60th minutes when Donegal scrambled in two goals in quick succession. A Declan Mullan point deep into injury time cut the deficit to three but the damage had been done.
Final score ... Tyrone 3-7 Donegal 4-7

Tyrone Team – Conor Coyle, Hugh O'Neill, Brendan Begley, Tony McRory, Jimmy McRory, Aidan Kelly, Colm Connolly, Aidan McKernan, Tommy Fox, Sean Kelly, Ciaran Donavan, Niall Grimes, Liam Armstrong, Declan Mullan, John Conlon

ULSTER MINOR HURLING LEAGUE

Report Courtesy of Geoff Gillis

Tyrone 4-11 – Monaghan 0-6
Sunday March 22nd
At Derrytresk

The score line says it all about this one sided Ulster Minor League encounter, at Derrytresk on Sunday, as Tyrone got their campaign up and running with an impressive victory over Monaghan, writes Geoffrey Gillis.

Aided by a strong breeze Tyrone established control from an early stage and after Aidan Kelly gave them the lead full forward Declan Mullan struck for the opening goal on 8 minutes for a 1-1 to 0-0 advantage. Monaghan replied with a Fergal Greenan free on 11 minutes, and while Greenan added another it was evident Tyrone were the superior team. Kelly was a tower of strength in defence, while KB Corrigan and Aidan McKernan provided a solid midfield platform from which Mullan, Sean Kelly and Liam Armstrong excelled from a continuous flow of possession.

Armstrong rifled in a second goal after 14 minutes before Tony McCrory, Armstrong, Kelly (two), Cushley and Donovan eased Tyrone into the comfort zone. Greenan's third free of the half reduced the margin 2-8 to 0-3, at the break.

Given the strength of the breeze Tyrone were expecting a Monaghan backlash on the restart, but it never materialised because Cushley and Mullan crashed home goals within nine minutes to settle the issue.

Sub Emmett Kelly and Armstrong edged Tyrone 4-10 to 0-3 ahead, but Monaghan with Greenan, Gavin Baxter and Liam Hahessy toiling gamely staged a spirited revival to put some respectability on the final score. Greenan's fourth free ended a lengthy scoring sequence before Tyrone responded via the hurl of McKernan. As Tyrone emptied the bench Hahessy and Baxter hit two late points on a day the visiting Oriel teenagers played second best to an accomplished Tyrone performance.
